If we as a country said today that we are behind bush..
concerning the war in Iraq, how would this help to win the war in Iraq, would this then mean they could say they will start a draft.

1. The one and only reason I'd stand behind *...
would be to give him as many hard, swift kicks as I could manage before the SS pull me off and disappear me into the bowels of the Ministry of Truth.

2. There's already a bill waiting around to be voted on enacting
the draft... if the Iran conflict begins, we will have a draft... and remember folks... they have upped the age of conscripts..

3. Yep
But more to the point we would let Bush do whatever he wanted without looking too closely.

6.  I noticed that General Grange on Cnn ...
says that we could win the war if we all get behind this president. So the only conclusion I could come to is what difference would it make except to let bush do anything he wants thus, the draft.

4. Mostly it would mean we are a nation of goose-stepping fascists
who deserve whatever they get. And yes, The Leader probably would feel free to initiate a draft. And with draft boards established around the country (able to give out deferments) the draft would undoubtedly be as unfair as it was during the Vietnam War.

5. he lost us
not long after 9/11.This guy, who came to Washington with his big spiel about bipartisanship spoke one way and acted another. Now he doesn't even care he just flames the dems as "cut and runners".These people running the GOP have turned this once independent voter ( I even considered GWB around 1999) into something just left of I don't know who or what.I will NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER vote for a republican as long as I am on this planet. They shot their load and gave up everything with that power grab in 2000

8. LOL.
Why do people keep thinking the Repukes want a draft? Only Democratic politicians are talking about starting one. Do you think voters are too dumb to realize that?

Why do they talk about it? Because they consider it the only way the average voter will get really stirred up to oppose a war that they may not approve of but are not yet passionately against.

Why hit yourself in the head with a hammer? Because it feels so good when it stops hurting.

9. They don't want it because of the votes and the
uproar that will come from the public. They beat around the bush about troops but in essence they are saying they need one, but they won't say it. They will say it once the dems win that way it will become the dems fault for everything that has happened since the war started.

If you are talking about Charlie Rangel he is saying it because he knows bush won't and he is saying if you are going to fight a war you need more troops. I don't think that the average voter will get stirred up because they are too busy with other things and they won't care until, the notice hits their front door. If the voters aren't stirred up by now I don't know what it will take.

stir up the voters.

What is your evidence that they want, or for that matter need, a draft? Some of them may say it. Maybe. But the leadership will never, never, never permit a draft.

Some Republicans will say all sorts of things at variance with the leadership, and the followership for that matter. But the party as a whole won't permit it. An example, that fellow that thinks evangelical Christians should take a "fast" from politics. How many Republican office-holders feel that way, do you think?

11. I think that they really need a draft because...
bush is stirring up conflicts all over the world and we don't have enough military to fight. Maybe he will get what he wants: A war over here...
