GOP will have 'Buyer's Remorse' if Lieberman does win.
Edited on Fri Oct-20-06 09:52 AM by npincus
Particularly if they lose control of the Senate. Wouldn't they have been wiser to support their own candidate, throw heaps of money on him, and (try to) pull out a victory instead of teaching their own party members how to pull the lever for a Democrat ('Independent')? Once these "Dems For a Day' test the waters, perhaps they will come to the light...

Supporting Iraq War hawk Lieberman seemed like a good idea at the time, but now that the Repubs are openly turning tail on the war, are dabbling exit strategies that include 'cut and run'-- OK as long as it has James Baker's seal of approval, hasn't the relevance of a Lieberman victory passed for the GOP?

I believe they will regret their decision to send their voters to the Democratic ('Independent') party, by virtue of ignoring their own candidate.

2. They really don't have any candidates that could make a run
in CT. They are desparately trying to retain their three house seats, and couldn't afford to let one of those go to try an attempt at the senate. Lieberman is actually their only hope. :scared:

3. They wanted his war support
So they could point to him and say "See thats what a good Democrat is like"

Plus they couldn't beat him if they tried.

5. That's the problem. If Dems take the Senate and
Liebermen wins his election, both parties are going to kiss his ass like there is no tomrrow. They'll have to.

Maybe his head will get so big he won't be able to get out of his office, and we'll be safe.

8. You hit the nail on the head there.
If it's 51-49, Lieberman probably becomes the most important man in the Senate. It's fucking sickening.

Not as bad as 5 week old clams, but still pretty sickening.

6. I would bet money (if I were a bettin' man and had the money)
that, if the senate ends up 49-50-1 in favor of the reprobates, NoMoJoe will change his reg to "R".

9. Well, the CT Democrats did vote him out in the primary.
Frankly, if he caucuses with the Republicans, we can all thank the Dems who voted against him. Why would he stick with the party that rejected him?

All this BS about how Lieberman wasn't ideologically pure enough to be a true Democrat is going to come back to bite us in the ass. I never have seen what's to gain from trying to do some sort of Stalinist purge of our party.

7. Two reasons
I think they want him there to still represent the "sane" wing of the democratic party(in their opinion) and to try to moderate all of the newly energized democrats from starting shit they do not like(such as oversight hearings).
