The Olbermann effect, or why the MSM is turning liberal
Edited on Wed Oct-18-06 10:37 PM by boolean
Tonight, CNN did a full hour of truth about the Iraq war. As other posters have mentioned, Joe Scarborough has "softened up" lately. Lou Dobbs did a special about how the middle class is geting screwed. It seems like lately, the corpomedia has stopped with the GOP bullshit and actually started to expose the truth to the American public. (Faux news, of course, is an exception...What with the "accidental" chyron labelling...)

Even though it's not NEAR the level it should be, the MSM is slowly grasping the concept that people actually want to hear the truth. I choose to call this "The Olbermann effect"

Mr. Olbermann has done something that nobody else has done in YEARS. He has shown that the people not only want to hear the truth, but DEMAND it and will willingly sit through a "boring" half hour or hour to hear actual facts. While the ass kissing bushbots over at Fux continue to lose viewership, K.O. has shown that there is a wide audience of liberals (otherwise known as truth seekers) out there.

Pinheads like O'Reilly will continue to perpetuate the myth that the majority are "traditionalists" and that there is a "culture war" between them and the so called "secular progressives", except for one fact: O'Reilly's viewers are either dying (average age: 74), or they're leaving because they've had enough of his hubris. The majority are the truth seekers. The liberals.

And now, other stations are taking notice. K.O. is generating ratings. The competition must catch up or face extinction. CNN and Joe Scarborough HAVE to start reporting the truth now, because if they don't, people will all switch to Olbermann to get it. Yay for the free market system. All it took was a visionary like K.O. to blast open the flood gates.

What else can I say except Thank you, Keith Olbermann :yourock:

1. I am worried
Three Rumors About NBC Layoffs We've Read Today: A Round-Up
In the interest of paying some attention, warranted or not, to various rumors about NBC layoffs both "massive" and very targeted circulating on these internets, we present this very special round-up for discussion on your afternoon commute:

· Fishbowl DC hears "reliable grumblings" about the aforementioned "massive" bloodletting, to be announced tomorrow by NBC GE Universal K-Mart hatchetman Jeff Zucker. Verdict: We hear there's some kind of "town hall" meeting with Zucker happening tomorrow, possibly dealing with this.
· Media-deep-throating sister site Gawker says, "We're hearing that NBC is about to get a lot lighter, employee-wise. Some of what we've been told involves massive layoffs at MSNBC, with the remaining crew moving from Secaucus to 30 Rock."

3. Even if MSNBC goes bye bye...
I hold out hope that Keith Olbermann would be offered to move his show to CNBC. Given the ratings of CNBC in prime time, Olbermann would be a massive boost.

4. They'll Keep Olbermann & Tweety
Scarborough will be a close call. He may get to stay. Tucker and Rita may get the boot. Whora might have enough of a right wing bent that they'll hold onto her because she "looks good" on camera.

I hope they would keep the Countdown show the same, although they probably will make changes to both it and Softball when they switch to CNBC.

2. You know he's right....because no one will defend the signing of this
POS legislation. I'm waiting for anyone to try to refute a word of what Olbermann said tonight. That'll be my idea of an Al Qaeda sympathizer.
