I just watched Jimmy Swaggart tell his viewers that the Bible is a lie
If Israel falls to the Devil, the Bible is a lie.

If Israel falls, as the "Muslim world" wants it to, the Bible is a lie.

These were his very words....spewed in front of a 10 foot high map of the Middle East. He was armed with a very sharp looking pointer and he kept pointing to Jerusalem as he made his points.

The man seemed quite insane.

3. According to the Bible, he would be correct
The Bible is filled with prophetic blessings on the "House of David" to be reborn as a nation which happened in 1948.

For Israel to fall under Muslin dominance again would be not in line with Biblical prophecy, thus "a lie"

6. the book of revelations is HIGHLY open to interpretation.
many a religious leader has staked their reputation on THEIR interpretation and been shown to be wrong.
The bible is a great book, but its prophecies have ever been vague, and people pick up the wrong parts of it.
For example, its not clear whether "rebuilding the temple" refers to the physical temple, the church, or the second coming (he has referred to himself as a temple)

televangelists like swaggart I doubt have the intellectual capacity to understand the concept of varying interpretation of a text.

10. I've come to the conclusion.........
that the author of the book of Revelation (as well as the authors of several of the other books in the Bible and the authors of the sacred texts of all the other great religions) wrote about what they saw while they were in a state of altered awareness or while they were under the influence of powerful hallucinogenics.

During ancient times, people frequently used "incenses" and "herbs" to heighten their spirituality and sensitivity to the presence of God.

Before anyone asks (Cause after all, this is DU), I can't PROVE that any of the authors of any of the sacred texts of any religion used hallucinogens - that's just what I suspect happened.

Also, I believe in God, I just don't put any faith in ANY religion.

19. The book of Revelation is only a small part of the Biblical prophecy
concerning Israel. So what Swaggert was preaching on, I assume was not based on what Revelation says but old testament prophecies.

9. Anyone who believes Revelation is a prophecy of the future
is definitely NOT a theologian.

Bonkers. Little difference between he and his cousin Jerry Lee, except Jerry Lee can play a piano better.

12. monotheism evolved from sun worship
this was established by Dr. Sigmund Freud in his last and possible most important monograph, "Moses and Monotheism". <http://geocities.com/ngant17/monotheism.txt>

"The Christian religion and Masonry have one and the same common origin: Both are derived from the worship of the Sun. The difference between their origin is, that the Christian religion is a parody on the worship of the Sun, in which they put a man whom they call Christ, in the place of the Sun, and pay him the same adoration which was originally paid to the Sun." --- Thomas Paine
