"Fox News Drifting Left?"

http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/fnc/fox_news_drifting_left_31346.asp

"Fox News Drifting Left?"

A bunch of conservatives are concerned that Fox News Channel is "tilting to the left." Accuracy in Media's Cliff Kincaid says "perhaps the most egregious example was the global warming program on Fox featuring Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as a 'special correspondent.'" And he quotes several comments like this one: "I have abandoned Fox News the same way they have left the conservatives."

But he saves the best comment for last. "It seems to me that a lot of conservative news/political junkies don't understand the nature and character of News Corp and Rupert Murdoch...His news division does lean right, but this I believe has less to do with politics and more to do with business: there was an untapped market for 'fair and balanced' news, and Murdoch wisely hired Ailes to help him capture it. Murdoch is a mogul, and he only cares about profits and whatever benefits his company..."

> "Behind the scrim of Kincaid's banter lurks an even more insidious threat to our independent media system," MediaCitizen's Tim Carr says...

5. Only in the aspect that, as the rest of the media charges to the right
that moves the "center" to the right - ergo, if Fox doesn't hire Pat Buchanan and some KKK members, it will seem to drift left . . .

6. A couple of times in 2005 they almost said the truth
That's a hell of a leftward drift.

Time to turn hard to starboard and weld the rudder in place.

10. impossible for them to drift any farther right i suppose
So basically any time they deviate from the talking points even a little bit they are drifting left.

11. I always thought that these media corps were operating on
Edited on Wed Jan-25-06 01:51 PM by izzybeans
a misinformed business model. they confuse their own small worlds for the rest of us and so forgot to market beyond their own narrow-minded circles. Corps bow to consumer demands. Stop watching right wing shows, force Fox, CNN, and MSNbc to change.

The assumption was because FNC beats out the rest that this must be the market when in reality the left had long abandoned them and seek their info. elsewhere. I suppose one day they will perhaps "find that untapped" market one way or another. Unfortunately will probably wind up with an idiotic line up featuring Hannity and Colmes/and that show with Reagan on MSNBC style set ups where its fire breathing cross-fire style.

I however don't think that bringing on Robert Kennedy reflects a huge shift (in terms of overall numbers). Though it is a start in that direction.

25. I know who he is. I was saying
him being an analyst or whatever he was/is on FNEWs is not a huge shift. Now if they bring on more and more people from other progressive movements, for instance if they have a labor organizer analyzing business news then I'll stand impressed. But I suppose they thought they could try to embarass Kennedy, Jr. as they try to do others.

The first part of my post was directed to the fact that Murdoch will shift his rightwing model whenever somebody convinces him the left is a huge market (which we all know it is).

12. Hahaha!
"His news division does lean right, but this I believe has less to do with politics and more to do with business."

Leaning right only helps those with money. I love it! You can tell the tide has truly turned when RWNuts like Murdoch realize that more and more people are turning against BushCo's evil ways and want the truth. He's in it for the money! He doesn't care where the money comes from! There is no honor among thieves:)

"Tilting Left" = Truth

Truth = Threat

or they can clone the two of them, although, human cloning in itself, would be leaning left - what to do? what to do?

Edited on Wed Jan-25-06 02:01 PM by Max Cherry
FOX will always spew crap from the right-wing!!!!!!!!! Fox was created to counter what they feel is a liberal bias in the media so the higer-ups at FOX would NEVER NEVER let their dear old network go to the dark side. By the way I know NO ONE that believes anything FOX says!!!!

24. ah... did you see their new head counts?

Glen Beck, the brown shirt from the fascist talk radio we enjoy in america.

Recent CNN hire Beck on Cindy Sheehan: "That's a pretty big prostitute"

Summary: On his radio show, newly hired CNN commentator Glenn Beck called Cindy Sheehan "a pretty big prostitute" but later agreed that "tragedy pimp" would be a more accurate term for Sheehan.

On the January 10 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Glenn Beck called anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan "a pretty big prostitute," later amending, at the behest of his executive producer, Steve "Stu" Burguiere, that "tragedy pimp" would be "the most accurate description."

27. What? Not Fair and Balanced?
Wrong! Fox is still FAIRly reactionary, and BALANCED somewhere between Atilla the Hun and Jesse Helms. Wing-nuts need not fear, the propaganda's coming through loud and clear.
