Drivers Feel Crunch On Their Wallets

POSTED: 5:12 pm EDT October 5, 2006
UPDATED: 7:00 pm EDT October 5, 2006

INDIANA COUNTY, Pa. -- They felt the need for speed, and now some drivers in Indiana County are feeling a crunch on their wallets.

State police released a list of top speeders for September.

Paul Kitonis, 20, of Bristow, Va., was cited for going 95 mph.

The posted speed limit was 65 mph.

Why is the police posting names of speeders? Next up is making people wear scarlet letters again!

1. Then let me subvert their purpose
You *go* Paul, Ryan, John, Erin (yay, a fellow girl!), and Doug!

Though you should be keeping it on the track, people...

8. If you really wanna know...
It sunshines the police department by letting Indiana County residents know what they're spending their time/money on. It might be a deterrent to speeding if you know you're getting your name in the paper. It's a paper of public record (maybe there was a court order directing the police department to publish the blotter).

4. That's not really anything new.
Our local paper has printed police and sheriff reports for as long as I remember, (since the 60s) They include any traffic tickets, arrests, bonds, ages, and lots of other details.

5. Wonder if they are still doing Camo Cops?
In Indiana County they had the Troopers dressing in camo in the woods with radar guns hitting the speeders. 90+ is probably a bit much but IMHO I wish this country had a bit more European attitude to driving fast.

6. More Anti Destination League nonsense from state revenue patrol.
As far as I'm concerned, that list is like the ranking board at a track.

7. If they are going to do that, then list the fine
That is how it's done here and I find it pretty persausive. I don't agree with the technique for avariety of reasons but if you are going to do that then let people know what it costs. The way this is presented it's like - :woohoo: Paul was going 95! Whot a stud!
