Christian evangelist meets with Hastert to persuade him to step down

PLANO, Ill. - House Speaker Dennis Hastert met Tuesday with an Indian Christian evangelist who hoped to persuade the Illinois Republican to step down.

Hastert, who has been under pressure to resign over the congressional page sex scandal, greeted evangelist K.A. Paul at the door of the speaker's home near suburban Plano, about 45 miles west of Chicago. After the meeting, Hastert did not comment.

Paul told The Associated Press he met alone with Hastert for about 30 minutes and prayed with him.

"I am humbled with his humility and simplicity," Paul said of Hastert.

Hastert simple? That I'll agree with. Humility? I'm not buying that for any price. If the man had an ounce of principal or humility in his body he'd do the RIGHT thing and resign. Since his resignation is not forthcoming I must assume he's just another power hungry hypocrite with no sense of conscience whatsoever. :shrug: Any debate there?
