WOAH: Kucinich: "....and even linking Iran with a future 911."...
I just heard on DemocracyNow that Dennis Kucinich is holding hearings today about the run up to a war with Iran. I found this on his website:

Dear Friends,

The Bush Administration is preparing for war against Iran, using an almost identical drumbeat of weapons of mass destruction, imminent threat, alleged links to Al Qaeda, and even linking Iran with a future 911.

In the past few months, reports have been published in Newsweek, ABC News, and GQ Magazine that indicate the US is recruiting members of paramilitary groups to destabilize Iran through violence. The New Yorker magazine and the Guardian have written that the US has already deployed military inside Iran. The latest issue of Time writes of plans for a naval blockade of Iran at the Strait of Hormuz, through which 40% of the world's oil supply passes. Other news reports have claimed that an air strike, using a variety of bombs, including bunker busters, to be dropped on over 1,000 targets, including nuclear facilities. This could obviously result in a great long-term humanitarian and environmental disaster.

Earlier this year, I demanded congressional hearings on Iran and was able to secure the promise of a classified briefing from the Department of Defense, the State Department, and the CIA. When the briefing was held, the Department of Defense and the State Department refused to show and are continuing to block any congressional inquiry into plans to attack Iran.

Just this past week, the International Atomic Energy Agency called "erroneous, misleading, and unsubstantiated" statements relating to Iran's nuclear program which came from a staff report of the House Intelligence committee. Other intelligence officials have claimed over a dozen distortions in the report, which, among other things, said Iran is producing weapons grade uranium. The Washington Post wrote: "The IAEA called that 'incorrect,' noting that weapons grade uranium is enriched to a level of 90 percent or more. Iran has enriched uranium to 3.5% under IAEA monitoring."

I have demanded that the Government Oversight subcommittee on National Security and International Relations, of which I am the ranking Democrat, hold hearings to determine how in the world the Director of National Intelligence, John Negroponte, viewed the report without correcting the obvious inaccuracies before it was published. Once again, a case for war is being built on lies.

You will recall that four and a half years ago I warned this nation about the deception behind the buildup to war against Iraq. Everything I said then turned out to be 100% right. I led 125 Democrats in opposing the Iraq war resolution in March of 2003. The very same people who brought us Iraq in 2003 are getting ready to bring us a war against Iran.

.....

With this and the H.R. 6200 "Paper Ballots Only" bill, Dennis gets my donations.

1. Stuff like that could get him Wellstoned.
Or what will happen is that they'll pull the "whackjob gnome" frame on him. Saves the clean-up and suspicious early arrival by the FBI . . .

3. When Congressmen are saying we are on the verge of another war
We should at least consider the possibility that it will happen. It is the only thing Republicans think will save them and to them that is all that is important. They believe with all their hearts that the USA is infallible. That we can win any war with both hands tied behind our backs. That from people who have never experienced War or the military. I believe we are on the verge of a catastrophe of monumental proportions. Congress must take back their duty of deciding whether we go to war or not or else we will be in a war and it won't be some little Iraq with rag tag civilians. If we attack Iran we will set off a real World War with all the players. China, Russia, the Arab nations. It is a scenario too scary to even contemplate but we must.

4. I don't think they can now even if they were planning
With NK hosting their nuke test, regardless if it was a flop or not, how can the US go to war with Iran? The rest of the world will say "What the fuck are you guys doing there? The problem is over here in NK."

We will lose every last allie we've ever had. The Shrub was basically one-upped by NK and there's not much he can do about it.

Absolutely!! Bush's inept "diplomacy" of only talking to your friends is finally catching up with him. he could be outmaneuvered politically by a dozen retarded Ukrainian midgets because he doesn't really have a political strategy any more than he had a strategy to win the Iraq War.
We're tied down in Iraq and Afghanistan.Oops I meant Bogged down. Maybe Bush will get the Israelis to take on NK for us.

"With NK hosting their nuke test, regardless if it was a flop or not, how can the US go to war with Iran? " This is my opinion also. But Bush reacted to Osama by attacking Iraq--it would be totally consistent with his poliicies to attack Iran when NK was the more pressing problem.

I think all this Iran talk right now is just sabre ratttling, positioning, bluffing.

7. I will tell you how
When I was in the Nam we would fly what we called Hunter-Killer missions. We would sen a loach out with a light team of guns trailing it. A loach being an army acronym for low observation helicopter and light team of guns being two gunship helicopters. The loach would fly low and slow along a river or NVA trail and try to get the enemy to fire upon it. As soon as the loach received some fire the guns would swoop down and annihilate the area. This is what is going on with the Eisenhower battle group being sent to the Straits of Hormuz. As soon as one of our ships is fired upon which is inevitable then the war is on. Bush* can say he didn't start it and is only defending America. We are going to blockaide the straits and they will attempt to break the blockaide. It is going to happen so prepare for it.

8. What are the chances of the Iranians not taking the bait?
We aren't at war with them (yet) and from the little I've been able to gather, their attitude hasn't exactly been "Bring it on, if you think you're big enough!"

In fact, hasn't it been Bush who's been AGGRESSIVELY ducking any diplomatic talks?

9. They have stated they will not tolerate a blockade of the Straits of Homuz
That is exactly what the Eisenhower Battle Group has been sent to do. I think the odds of Iran defending their water ways is quite high.

5. He's been looking into this for the last year
Its been a big concern of his and I get the feeling there's a lot he can't say, but is troubled about.

If he thinks its important, it is. He's not one to go off half - cocked. He does his homework.

12. A "future 9/11" -- What on earth does he mean???
I've heard a number of mainstream, respectable and presumably non-tin foil hat figures saying that the Iran war may be sparked by a "future 9/11."

That would mean that a 9/11 will happen on cue to get the war going.

But doesn't that imply some control over this catastrophic terrorist attack -- ie making it happen in time to start the war? And does this imply that Kucinich actually is LIHOP/MIHOP?

It's amazing to me how many people will entertain the idea of a future 9/11 occurring on cue, but will not come out and talk about what they think were the origins of the original 9/11.

14. BTW: Here's the headline on DemocracyNow...The 'Briefing' is Wednesday...

Rep. Kucinich: Bush is Preparing For War Against Iran

On Capitol Hill, Democratic Congressman Dennis Kucinich is leading a briefing on Wednesday on whether the Bush administration is ramping up for a war against Iran. Among the experts testifying are former UN nuclear weapons inspector David Kay and retired Air Force colonel Sam Gardiner. Gardiner has said evidence exists that the United States is already conducting covert military operations inside Iran. Time Magazine recently reported the aircraft carrier Eisenhower has been deployed to the Persian Gulf. In a recent campaign fundraising letter, Congressman Kucinich warned “The Bush Administration is preparing for war against Iran, using an almost identical drumbeat of weapons of mass destruction, imminent threat, alleged links to Al Queda, and even linking Iran with a future 911.”

15. Unfortunately, he isn't HOLDING hearings because he can't
He's demanding that the Government Oversight subcommittee on National Security and International Relations hold hearings. The Republican who chairs the subcommittee is free to ignore his demands. AFAIK, the Republicans haven't held any oversight hearings on Iraq, and they're unlikely to turn over a new leaf for Iran.

On the other hand, if the Dems take the House, then Kucinich will become the subcommittee chair and can indeed hold such a hearing.

Congressman Kucinich will lead a briefing Wednesday on Iran. Kucinich wants to find out what the Bush Administration plans for Iran, and what actions are already underway.

Testifying will be retired Air Force Colonel Sam Gardiner, author of The End of the Summer of Diplomacy. Gardiner is convinced that the US has been executing military operations inside Iran for at least 18 months. On September 18, Gardiner told CNN's Wolf Blitzer, "The evidence is overwhelming ... From both the Iranians, Americans, and from congressional sources."

Also testifying will be David Kay, former UN nuclear weapons inspector. Kay headed the team searching for WMD in Iraq throughout 2003, but resigned on January 24, saying he did not believe Iraq possessed large stockpiles of chemical or biological weapons.

The hearing will be held October 11 at 10 a.m. in Room 2154 of the Rayburn House Office Building.
