4. It was at the farmers' market today
that I decided we indeed must impeach the turd!
on the way home I tuned into Hannity who is convinced Korea is Clinton's fault and Limpballs has proof that Soros is behind all of everything.

I live in farm country, acres and acres of final harvests happening. It was 65 degrees out and clear, the fall colors are radiant, snow geese will soon be here, it's a full moon. All SHOULD be well, but alas and alack, we all know it will get much worse before it gets better.

I'm making stone soup for dinner.

5. You are afraid
To buy cabbage because Bush is president? What do you think...he went to california and took a dump on all the produce? :D

In all seriousness, you give him far more power over you than he actually has when you obsess about him.

ie. cheap labor, unregulated corporations......In all seriousness, if you came here to defend Bush, it may be a long night! But anyway , a belated welcome to D/U.

11. Believe me
I'm not here to defend him. We've had e coli outbreaks that I can remember going back to the 70's. Every couple of years we get a new one and it's not because of who is in office. It's poor business practices and ignorance.

14. In restaurants where you have people that have poor hygiene
handling your food, or where the cow ate from a contaminated source before being slaughtered, of course e-coli is a threat.
However, in unprepared fresh produce, name one other instance where e-coli was a factor in the death of someone.
I dare you.

There have been 32 e coli outbreaks involving fresh produce in North America since 1994.
http://www.foodsafetynetwork.ca/articles/870/produce-outbreak-chart.pdf

This is from a Canadian website but it covers Canada and the USA.

Here is one example:

http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/00048994.htm

E coli from alfalfa sprouts in Virginia and Michigan.

Produce warnings from 1997

17. How many people died?
I don't live in a world where there aren't these germs on our food.
I am talking about lettuce that kills you.
I didn't see any deaths reported in your examples. Drive Thru.

19. It only counts if you die?
hemolytic-uremic syndrome ...no biggie?

The FDA says 19 known outbreaks of E. coli have come from fresh-cut lettuce or spinach since 1995.

http://www.cantonrep.com/index.php?ID=309754

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates 73,000 cases of infection with E. coli O157:H7 and 61 deaths occur in this country each year.

http://www.niaid.nih.gov/factsheets/ecoli.htm

They don't give any breakdowns on death by lettuce in the fatalities section.

25. Sorry,
I don't have time to google the hundreds of e coli cases in the last 30 years to find out who specifically died from eating lettuce, who suffered kidney damage and who walked away unscathed. Produce has been a contributer and lettuse is second on the list after beef. It's not something that was invented or foisted upon us in the last few years.

If your interest is in death vs damage, I can't help you.

10. Oh please
If you don't realize that he appointed a CRONEY to head up the Department of Agriculture--the same guy who was PISSED off because someone in his agency had the NERVE to test some suspect beef for Mad Cow (that later turned up positive---and funny nobody talks about that either).
He has done what the terrorists couldn't. His deregulation has eroded the checks and balances that keeps our food supply safe.
I WILL eat veggies--however, ONLY when I can get to a local known grower.

12. I guess you have a rational
Explanation for every single e coli outbreak in the 20 year prior to shrub taking office?

Jesus people, why in the hell do you give him so much power over every single freaking mundane aspect of your lives?

18. I, like the majority of Americans didn't give George
ANYTHING. He stole his way into power.

And, he does have a lot of power. Perhaps you should tell the tens of thousands of dead Iraqis and the thousands of dead and injured soldiers not to let George have power over their lives.

George Bush has had a direct and intended effect on every "mundane" aspect of all American's lives. All but the very wealthy will be suffering from his decisions for a very long time.

The e-coli outbreaks are only a side issue. What are the reasons for these recent outbreaks? Some things in the past happened because of random occurrences. Bush has purposely accelerated 'random' occurrences because those outliers are now the rational outcome of his policies, including food safety.

20. Whatever
All I know is I don't live my life peering under the bed to see if Georgie is spying on me. I don't wear a tin foil hat to keep the repub super secret evil thoughts rays out of my head either. I will not live my life obsessing over shit I have no control over and I won't let my hatred/dislike of anyone drive my every thought.

I don't think of bush when I grocery shop, I don't think of him when I take a shower and I don't think of him when I'm spending quality time with my family. He's just not that freaking important to me.

23. Ever think about quality family time
when one of you is 'disappeared?'

It seems that you equate thinking with a tin-foil-hat. Besides, it's not about 'him.' It's about what 'he' is implementing. It's about how this country is governed. I wonder why you conflate the functions and functioning of this country into 'him?'

Here ya go: http://www.chris-floyd.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=876&Itemid=135

Whatever. (You write like a dittohead.) BTW, it is now U.S. law that 'he' can disappear you or any member of your family. Be sure not to think of that at the market.

You want to trot that out again?

Like I said, if you want to live your life always miserable, knock yourself out. It doesn't make your life better or the lives of anyone around you and it sure as hell doesn't win elections for us.

Misery and negativity doesn't woo anyone.

You (seemingly) equated asking questions about how our governing system works to living life miserably. This is the same baloney Rush Limbaugh spouts every day.

It goes like this: Democracy isn't a participatory exercise, it's a state of mind. That state of mind is to not notice anything around you except your immediate wants and needs. Limbaugh preaches that faux 'libertarian' pull-yourself-up-by-the-bootstraps; your thinking is all that's important. It's all about thinking about yourself and ignoring the community, country and world you live in. If you think anything other than cheery thoughts about yourself (as you've already illustrated), well then, you are a defeatist and you will be miserable and will loose elections.

Rush is a great example of a mind control propagandist and you are saying, basically, the same thing as him. Take that out for a trot around the track.

I don't listen to Rush but apparently you spend a lot of time doing so.

The Democratic party has always been the party of self reliance and can-do attitude. It's a shame some of the recent members have fallen into a morass of pity. It really shames the great democratic traditions of this country.

22. I'll make this a little easier on you while you attempt to apologize
for your President.
By using the charts you provided--and the numbers therein, do you not find it REMARKABLE that in 2004 there was only ONE outbreak? Or in 2005 only FIVE outbreaks? And now people are dying? Look at 1999 when we had a real President who didn't lie to the people. Are we simply to believe that all these germs just went away?
Does it make sense to you that this shit either isn't being reported or even worse--being ignored?
Give me oversight any day of the week.
You can keep your lying and murdering President.

26. Put away
The tin foil hat and stop trying to suggest he is "my" president.

That is a direct personal attack on my character for daring to ask you why your entire day was apparently ruined while buying cabbage while bush is in office.

I googled and posted statistics on e coli, which is more you could be bothered to do and since my links didn't point a big damned arrow at the white house and claim, HE DID IT!!! suddenly I'm the enemy?
