Wolfie: "Are they going to vote DemocRAT or Republican?"
Instead of Democratic. We all knew he was two steps from being a Republican operative - but he really "outed" himself there.

I'm firing off an e-mail to CNN about this.

If anyone else feels like doing the same - here's the contact information:

1. A useless whore...
desperate to prove that he's a serious journalist, but he's about as legitimate as a $3 bill.

2. "two steps from"?
How about twelve steps past. Leslie is a big time republic party operative.

did he actually put emphasis on the "rat" or did he simply say democrat?

6. It should be Democratic/Republican
not Democrat/Republican. Saying "Democrat" is a typical Republican slam.

33. It always annoys me when some idiot uses the "left coast" term
to describe California (also includes Washington and Oregon, but does anybody call them "the left coast"?)

It really burns me up that lefties use it, too.

I always thought it was code to the freepturds and dittododos for people who wanted to show that they were kool-aide drinkers, but were afraid to actually come out and say that they were righties, for fear of something or other ...

7. Democrat is an acceptable version of Democratic
Now, I wish they would shorten Republican to Repuke, but that ain't gonna happen. How about saving the outrage for something that means something?

11. Not really.
It has become a code word for the right and leslie knows it. They are engaged in a deliberate attempt to relabel our party the Democrat Party. It is unacceptable.

14. They like to emphasize the "RAT" at the end & also think "Democratic"
has too "noble" of a connotation.

What irks me is that they are trying to change the name of OUR party.

12. No, it is NOT.
It is a Republican party framing.

It is grammatically incorrect. We are Democrats. We are members of the Democratic Party.

16. No, it implies that democrats are not democratic.... HOWEVER
Edited on Mon Oct-09-06 04:53 PM by DireStrike
It's a slur, it has been for quite a while.

HOWEVER I've heard it used that way in that specific construction many times - "...Democrat or Republican?" The "ic" is an awkward syllable in that case.

15. Used as a noun, we say "the Democrats," not "the Democratics".
Is there an insult against the Democratic Party to be found there, too?

While Wolf may certainly have shown poor grammar in using "Democrat" instead of "Democratic" as an adjective, I must confess I never understood why it's considered an insult.

It's gramatically correct, and regardless of how you pronounce it, it fits.

20. and nigger is just a corrupted form of the latin "niger" for black
It's the intent, not the use.

Although I have no faith whatsover in leslie, there is a chance this could have been innocent. Exploding would be a bad idea.

23. In that particular sentence it doesn't seem extremely out of place
I've heard that sentence and similar ones voiced exactly that way in good faith. "...democrat or republican?"

The "ic" is just a rhythmically odd syllable there, so people opt to fudge by cutting it off and using the companion form of the word "republican", which also happens to be republican.

I don't trust wolfie at all but it's easily claimed that in this case he didn't do anything wrong.

30. IIRC, wasn't there something about using the word
"Democratic," like Democratic candidate or Democratic party that was more pleasing to the ear. That's why repugs intentionally don't use it. I hope someone on DU knows what I'm talking about.

In the context he used it in, it wasn't how the right-wing uses it. I've heard a lot of people who use say "Democrat or Republican"/
