Instead of Democratic. We all knew he was two steps from being a Republican operative - but he really "outed" himself there.

I'm firing off an e-mail to CNN about this.

I've heard that sentence and similar ones voiced exactly that way in good faith. "...democrat or republican?"

The "ic" is just a rhythmically odd syllable there, so people opt to fudge by cutting it off and using the companion form of the word "republican", which also happens to be republican.

I don't trust wolfie at all but it's easily claimed that in this case he didn't do anything wrong.

In the context he used it in, it wasn't how the right-wing uses it. I've heard a lot of people who use say "Democrat or Republican"/
