I'm worried that nothing can stop them...
Edited on Mon Oct-09-06 12:49 PM by TwoSparkles
I am really concerned about the way this Foley situation is shaking out. I feel
as if the Republicans will not be affected by this horrendous scandal and I'm
starting to feel as if they're unstoppable.

I'm astounded that Hastert is still around. He knew about Foley's emails to children,
and he allowed Foley's behavior to remain secret. What's worse is that Hastert allowed
Foley to remain as Chairman of the committee to Missing and Exploited Children--knowing that
Foley sent predatory emails to underage pages. That's sick.

The neocons seem to weasel their way out of everything. Their tactics, no matter how sick,
enable them to circumvent accountability. Utah representative, R-Chris Cannon, shopped around
disgusting spin--suggesting that pages are "precocious" and that parents need to warn their
children about people like Foley. So...Republicans blame victims of a pedophile and get
away with it? We live during times when Congressmen are not afraid of going on national television and calling pedophile victims "precocious" and insinuate that they are partially to blame when a 55-year old Congressman initiates graphic sex talk with them? It's just so outrageous...it's hard to believe that this is our current reality.

This is just so over the top. It's so corrupt and sick. I feel if they can get away
with covering up pedophile behavior--to gain politically--then they can get away with
anything.

I feel like I'm losing hope. I don't mean to bring anyone down. I'm not giving up. However,
I'm getting to the point where I wonder what would stop them. Is there anything?

I'm involved in the 06 elections--I'm a precinct captain and I'm working hard to get Dems in
my area to register to vote, and to vote absentee. I'm not paralyzed. However, I'm
really tired of these sickening thugs getting away with their crimes--and I'm really angry
at the people of this country who allow this to happen.

Sorry for the rant, but I just needed to purge some emotions.

1. Teflon
I have resolved the issue to believing in my gut.
We are very close to the political arena.
We know what is going on. Most of the public is on the periphery.
Make no mistake...I live in a red area, but people know what is going on.
They may not post it on a message board, but they will vote it.
I drive down the Main Street in my town and the majority of campaign signs are for Democrats.
I am going to have faith in Americans.
They are fed up.
The 20% that still support the Republican party are just very loud and have a complicit press corps.
The media may not be talking about the scandal anymore--but make no mistake, the people are still talking.
Keep your chin up. Have faith in the people. This is an important month.

precinct captain.

Look, a month out from any election is ALWAYS a time of trepidation. I don't care who you are or what
you think you control. The polls and even the piss-poor MSM all indicate they're going down, big time.

The Rs are whistling past their political graveyard. They are shoveling shit, but it's being pushed back in their
faces by the winds of change.

If I could cite one single example of what the Rs remind me of this year, it is the Walter Mondale campaign back
in 1984. Late in the campaign, Mondale made a campaign stop in NYCs garment district. I attended. It was a sea
of people - unions, parents & kids. We raised the roof. We did the chants...and we knew to a person that Mondale was
going to lose.

3. you may be right, but re: blaming victims of pedophiles...that has also
happened in other pedophile cases. I think its an unfortunate and common occurrence. The same thing happens in rape cases.
There is bizarre need to excuse the offender by claiming the victims were "asking for it".

dysfunctional.

but beyond that, you may be right that the republicans will weather even this storm, if for no other reason than that they control the house, the senate, the courts, the press, and the churches.

4. It's the corporate-owned press that won't allow their scandals
to escalate. Years ago they harped on the Clenis 24/7. Every repuke fake or overblown accusation was treated as gospel truth. The headlines were atrocious and retractions, if written at all, were on the bottom of page 27.

Despite all this kid glove treatment, people are disgusted with this congress and administration and getting moreso every day. Talk to people. Keep the conversation on the scandals and how much more serious they are than Clinton's. The morals party has none. It's up to us to do the media's job. Props, of course, to KO, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.

5. But even the MSM are taking shots at bush these days that would
have been unthinkable 6 months ago. Sure, the entrenched he-said-she-said crap that has ruined
the media is still there (it won't go away overnight, you know), but since the Big Dawg took down
Faux News, the rest of the media has grown a few balls.

It would be one thing if Foleygate, bush's failed policies in Iraq & NK were not being reported or were being
given a fresh coating of lipstick, but it's not happening. The ONLY people still in bush's corner are the paid
apologists, and even they are gettin their lunch handed to them on a daily basis.

Yes - we can't assume victory, and we can assume that the Rs and their enablers will do everything in their power
to steal another election, but change is in the air.

Eyes on the prize, my friends.

6. "It's up to us to do the media's job" and it works. FIGHT FIGHT

And FIGHT again. The criminal neoCON'$ puppet once HAD close to 90% 'approval-ratings' ("they were warned and did nothing" against their wet dream of a new Pearl Harbor).

Today, their newly installed dicktraitorturer (with the help of a few 'supposedly' Dems...) "enjoys" a 30-something 'rating' despite the fact that the corporate junta managed to own all the m$m's hate-spewing machines.

These devilish mobsters won't go down without spewing slime out.

Nevertheless: they R on their way down, and that's a FACT.
At the very least: I URGE everybody to keep WORKING!
And wait before November 8 to take a vacation.

We're ALMOST there: from now until Nov. 8 sure ain't no time to "quit".
