North Korea test "provocative," "unprovoked": WHouse
A North Korean nuclear test would constitute a "provocative act" and Washington expects the U.N. Security Council to take immediate actions, the White House said early on Monday.

"U.S. and South Korean intelligence detected a seismic event Sunday at a suspected nuclear test site in North Korea," White House spokesman Tony Snow said in a statement.

"North Korea has claimed it conducted an underground nuclear test. A North Korean nuclear test would constitute a provocative act, in defiance of the will of the international community and of our call to refrain from actions that would aggravate tensions in northeast Asia," said Snow.

"We expect the Security Council to take immediate actions to respond to this unprovoked act," he said.

1. And do what exactly?
Aren't sanctions in place? At any rate, Saddam was under sanctions for 10 years and that didn't work (well it did, but not by their reasoning). Invasion isn't on the cards.

I'm reminded of Hans Blix in Team America.

"Mr Il, if you do not allow inspectors in we will be very angry; and we will write you a letter telling you how angry we are."

8. It's hard
To get popular appeal behind economic sanctions when Pyongyang will gladly let the citizenry starve and broadcast pictures of emaciated children eating weeds worldwide.

There really isn't very much we can do but sit back and wait for the next move.

2. So When Will Snowjob Find Time to Address NK While Campaigning....
...with Republicans for the upcoming elections.

I guess we can expect official White House responses in between campaign stops as Tony works the campaign circuit for Republican candidates.

4. So how does a country perform an unprovoked attack on their own
sovereign soil? On who? I understand Kim is bonkers, but the act was done on their soil. Oh yeah, that don't matter. Silly me. Please RW morans, don't say anything stupid and make it worse. Things are already bad enough now.

5. Hmmm... "the will of the international community" eh?
Since when has this administration ever cared about that? We wouldn't be in Iraq if they sincerely cared about the will of the international community.

We are so F*cked. If Murkins know what's best for them, they will vote as many Rethugs out of office as they can this November.

Including them in the "Axis of Evil" certainly isn't provocative. :eyes:
