SEOUL, South Korea — North Korea successfully completed a test of a nuclear weapon late Sunday night, a senior Bush administration official confirmed to FOX News.

The official said, however, that the underground blast only measured a registered a 3.58 seismic reaction, which was smaller than the 400-kiloton explosion the Axis of Evil nation sought.

"North Korea may not have got what they wanted," the official said.

Getting various numbers here. Yeah, Fox DIDN'T break the news of NK, CNN did and that is it. Just CNN. I'm still waiting for a confirmation from Japan AND China before I believe anything.

That seems pretty big for an "entry-level" nuke. Where did they get the idea that NK was going for 400-kt? The largest fission bomb was around 500kt.

a CONVENTIONAL source, not a nuclear one. Apparently they are getting this speculation from government officials in SOUTH Korea....

Axis of Evil was a slogan and nothing else. There was no axis there, wven if all three nations that comprised the fiction club were more than a wee bit scary. Even that isn't quite true; Saddam was all bluster and no bite. Nevertheless, Iran and Iraq had been at war and were hostile to one another and North Korea had nothing to do with either of them.

FoxNews characteristically gives a neoconservative slogan the legitimacy that should be reseved for hard analysis. Of course, Fox buys into the nonsense that Empires create their own realities.
