Second Republican Congressman Snared In Page Sex Scandal?
THIS FROM JOHN AT AMERICABLOG

Second Republican congressman snared in page sex scandal?
by John in DC - 10/07/2006 08:03:00 AM

Denny Hastert has put me in a difficult position.

I've heard rumors. Unsubstantiated talk. No proof yet. But I've heard things. Just like I heard things about Mark Foley this past July. This time I've heard things about a relatively senior Republican member of the House, and also about someone on the Speaker's own staff. Both rumors seem relevant to this story as it's unfolding.

So here's my dilemma. Denny Hastert says that if I don't report the unsubstantiated allegations I've heard, I'm a criminal. But the thing is, I'm also a journalist, and a good human being. I don't think it's right to print unsubstantiated rumors I've heard, rumors that could make life quite difficult for this Republican congressman and this senior member of Hastert's staff.

....................

So what do I do? Maybe I'll just call Denny Hastert's office on Monday, tell them what I've heard, and let them decide how comfortable they are with the Speaker's new standard of justice.

1. I'd bet that at least several others
have heard similar rumors and are facing the same dilemma. The WPost and NYT must be having a rumor field day with this, given their WDC contacts.

Good post, kpete. You're the best poster around.

2. Call or email CREW
This is right up their alley. They will know how to havdle it or will do it themselves.

CREW reported the Foley scandal to concress, the FBI and were the source of the pressure that got ABC and the rest off their asses.

The FBI, being in thrall and subject to the thug justice dept, were reluctant to do anything at all to dig into the current mess, typical "kiss up, kick down" bullies.

3. I Think John Should Run The Rumor On His Blog
Make sure he is very clear that this is a RUMOR but for the sake of protecting any other children he felt compelled to run it. Get it out. THEN call the FBI NYT CNN. But get it out there today!

4. I think it is Denny Hastert, anyone else?
The whole theme in this scandal is that gay Republicans tried to cover-up bad behavior because they knew what sort of damage it would do for them and the Republican party in general. They understood the hatred they and their fellow big-business-pragmatic-Republicans exploited and exacerbated over the past few decades is so wild that it would even cause Evangelicals to stop voting Republican. Hatred is like that you see, the people who go blow themselves up because they hate Israel and our country are the greatest example of hatred's self-destructive power, and this is yet another.

The gay Republicans engaged in a cover-up of the bad behavior, and I am really starting to wonder if Denny Hastert is gay or even interested in young men like Foley himself. While it is common for various people in Congress to share a house, Denny Hastert is the Speaker of the House, and he happens to be involved in multi-million dollar real estate deals back in his home state, so I highly doubt he is really hurting. Tom DeLay had his own little apartment. I also think it is a little off that Denny's chief of staff is involved in all this, and that he lives with his chief of staff. The common element through all this is that all the people involved have been gay Republicans. So I bet his chief of staff is gay, and that makes it all the more likely that Mr. Hastert is too. And the fact that he was a wrestling coach doesn't help either, not all wrestling coaches are gay or pedophiles, but in this sort of story it seems like an obvious position of power that might be exploited by a predator.

Now there is a second possibility: Hastert is super-big-time straight, and in no way, shape, or form is he attracted to men. He might view it as a bunking experience.

I suppose the big question is how many bedrooms his townhouse in Washington, DC has, and how many are actually used.
