About those Pew polls
Edited on Fri Oct-06-06 11:38 AM by Orrex
I've heard several times that the Foley's predatory antics haven't heard the Repubs in recent polls. How is this possible?

Is it because of the echo chamber endlessly blaming Democrats and labeling this a non-issue?

Since Santorum is one of my Senators, I've heard endlessly that polls are often wrong (thereby attempting to explain the double-digit lead that Casey has over him). But is it that simple? Are the polls not reflecting the damage that Foley has done to the GOP?

2. I don't trust the Pew polls. I think that have some sort of religious
affiliation.

3. What the voters care about
IT'S IRAQ, STUPID and THE ECONOMY!! Most consider this inside
the beltway stuff. They are very cynical about shenanigans
there, even sexual harassment of minors in the workplace!!!

4. Welcome to DU!
:hi:

What puzzles me is that, of the two dozen adults in my department, only one (aside from me) had even heard of the Republican Torture Bill passed last week, and he's a Democrat. No adults in my immediate acquaintance know anything about the GOP's role in the disastrous economy and even more disastrous Iraq quagmire (which may be the first time I've ever typed two q's in a row on purpose).

But you'd think that a sex scandal would at least blip onto their radar.

5. Uh, where have you heard that?
I think the Pew poll was taken largely before Foleygate but every other poll shows it hurting them, and they've generally been reported that way too. Even a lot of Republicans acknowledge this.

6. This morning, on NPR's Morning Edition
It was Mara Liasson, I believe, who mentioned it during this piece

She didn't give a precise citation, but she mentioned in passing that Repubs hadn't been particuarly hurt by it.

And now that I think of it, yesterday's Nightly Business Report on PBS showed poll results indicating that Dems were favored over Repubs by 51% to 38% before Foley and by 50% to 37% after. I believe that they were citing Pew statistics, and the implication was that both parties have been slightly hurt by the scandal, with neither coming out clearly ahead from it.
