1. The Widow Simpson
Won blue ribbon for canning at the Wisconsin State Fair.

That's pretty much it. It's been a slow two, three weeks for news.

7. Yep, big scandal.
It's been all over the national and international news.

2. A whirlwind
Mark Foley, a Republican from a safe district in Florida resigned from congress just as ABC started reporting that he sent sexually explicit emails and IMs to 16yo pages. He's since checked himself into an alcohol rehab center even though he hardly drinks.

What's more important is that Denny Hastert (remember he's a former high school teacher) has known about Foley's creepy behavior for several years, and knew about these specific exchanges for an entire year. He's under intense pressure from all sides (including the Washington Times) to resign, but he refuses. What's spectacular about this is that Fox News is reporting that GOP internal pollsters say that Hastert staying on could mean a 50 seat losss for the GOP next month.

In short: the entire GOP House leadership is in a complete freefall.

Also, a mad man invaded an Amish school house in Lancaster Co, PA, sent all the boys and adults outside and shot all the girls, killing at least 4. :-(

6. We are no longer interested in habeus corpus. Just grab somebody off
the street and lock them up for the rest of their lives. No lawyers. No trial. No mess.
