Great Quote re: Conservatives
Ironically, found in Pat Bechannan's new book:

"Stupid people are generally Conservative. I believe that i so obviously and universally admitted a principle that I hardly think any gentleman will deny it." ---John Stuart Mill, 1866

1. You'll get no argument here........
of course, Conservatives wouldn't see it that way. In other news, over 90% of people interviewed believe that they are of above average intelligence. Think about that. Now, think about an average person, you must know a few people who are average. Now, half the people in the country are MORE ignorant than that. Disturbing, isn't it? :scared:

2. So then it's a tradition?
Like the Confederate flag?

What was the context?

3. It was in the header of Chaper 5
"Suicide of the GOP"

While I RARELY agree with Pat, I like his books because he includes lots of interesting historical parallels.

4. I wonder about the context too
I suspect it's based on the idea that if you have limited capabilities you stick with what works. Which is what conservative used to mean. These days of course conservativism is a pretty radical philosophy, seeking enormous changes to our nation. But it t'weren't always so.

6. Of course, these radicals are not conservatives, they just tell
the conservatives that they are and, being stupid by nature, the conservatives believe them.

5. What context do you need?
The discussion was about stupidity. Conversely, when the subject is conservatism, stupidity invariably comes up. It is amazing how the two appear inextricably linked. Bound together as tightly as conservative and lying SOB.
