lieberman just said something that stunned me!
i was so taken aback that i'm not sure what he was commenting on but i think it was the reports that the admin knew how bad katrina would be prior to landfall. he said (and i'm paraphrasing), 'it would be like the intelligence community finding out, a couple of days before 9/11, that terrorists planned to attack in the u.s. using airplanes".

huh? pdb, anybody?

1. Did he say that on purpose, to make a point?
Or is he just ignorant?

2. Hmm.
Is he saying that didn't happen before 9/11 or is he being snarky?

6. I don't get it
I knew that New Orleans was going down two days before the hurricane. Anybody who lives down here and watches the weather channel and follows it online knew that this storm was the big one. We were astonished that there was anything left the next morning and there was that few hours of euphoria that it was still there, and then the water rose.

Of course he knew.

He had no information the rest of us didn't have, and he didn't have a crystal ball or anything. BUT WE ALL KNEW. Of course, he hadn't yet seen the DVD.

8. Is this what you heard?
The White House is crippling a Senate inquiry into the government's sluggish response to Hurricane Katrina by barring administration officials from answering questions and failing to hand over documents, senators leading the investigation said Tuesday.

In some cases, staff at the White House and other federal agencies have refused to be interviewed by congressional investigators, said the top Republican and Democrat on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. In addition, agency officials won't answer seemingly innocuous questions about times and dates of meetings and telephone calls with the White House, the senators said.

A White House spokesman said the administration is committed to working with separate Senate and House investigations of the Katrina response but wants to protect the confidentiality of presidential advisers.

"No one believes that the government responded adequately," said Sen. Joe Lieberman, D-Conn. "And we can't put that story together if people feel they're under a gag order from the White House."

23. here is the quote . . .
Lieberman says it couldn't be worse if the White House had dropped the ball on a pending attack, reports Roberts.

"It's as if two days before 9/11, an intelligence unit at the Department of Homeland Security said America's about to be attacked by terrorists flying airplanes," he said.

14. Neocons have a long history of "liking strife". They think the more
Edited on Tue Jan-24-06 07:59 PM by applegrove
the better. Indeed - the poorly planned war in Iraq may have more to do with snuffing the radicalism & militarism out of the average Iraqi than actually trying to win a war. Sending in too few troops meant a long & nasty war. Not a pretty one. And, the neocon hope may be, to snuff out any aggression in Iraqis..just like WWI and WWII did to Europe.

If this is true - it does mean and long and nasty war in Iran, Syrian are next.

In Ontario - the neocon Mike Harris came into power and instituted immediate welfare reform including cutting shelter allowances for those on welfare by 1/3. And they gave people 6 months to find new places to live. You and I can figure out that people will have to break leases in 6 months to find a new place. Apparently neocons convieniently forget strategic details like that. Or they like the civil strife and what it teaches the "others". Mike Harris had a 5 year mandate and instituted these radical change within weeks of getting a majority in 1995. So why not give people an extra 6 months - say 18 months to adjust to a new form of welfare where you cannot possibly have your own basement apartment.. but must double up. I am not agreeing with the policy.. but simply taking note of the "outcome of mayhem" the neocons seem to add into the timeline and troop numbers ... the new assumptions...that they never talk about.

And then Nero fiddles.

Katrina is the same thing. Oh yes - those people were in a bath-tub waiting to happen. Poor & corrupt enough that proper levies were not prioratized. Alot of "Naw - Category 5 will never hit". But when it did and it looked like there was a 50/50 chance that at least a category 4 would hit... and that meant a 50% change the city would flood and be sunk... why did Condi go shopping, Bush staffers play "send us a list" to the Governor when she begged for "everything you got". Why did they not break through any and all obstacles to get the resuce party rolling?

Neocons like mayhem. It is part of the the goal. They think mayhem makes for better people. Or something. Haven't quite got it all figured out quite yet. But it is pretty sick.

IMHO

20. I called his office on Alito today
And the staffer wasn't exactly warm to my pleading (rationally) for a filibuster. Joe has gone to the dark side. More republicans like him than dems in CT, so maybe the dems can turn him out to pasture in the primary.

storm hits. BushCo does nothing. But Lieberman supports * and doesn't know about the Aug. 2001 pdb?

Another reason to vote Lieberman out, if we get a good choice.
