Filibuster regardless of threat of "nuclear option". It will show you are Strong.
Take "nuclear option" head on and challenge its legality. It will show you are Fair.
Ram home the message that Repukes are corrupt and no Dems are involved. It will show you are Honest.
Push as hard as you possibly can for Impeachment. It will show you are Responsible.

Give whatever it takes to win 2006, and then we can reverse almost all of the damage (except scotus).

1. I so agree. Except I think we sacrifice nothing.
We'd be doing the correct thing.

2. yes, one of the biggest falacies I see here (occationally) is that the
more you shut up and don't take on risks or hard fights, the better chance you have to win. I think it is the opposite. Fight hard and take risks (but don't jump off any cliffs either) and the Dems will be in the best shape at the polls as well.

3. Why not filibuster? By Nov, 2006 the only ones who will care that
Dems did is the base who will Thank them by actually turning out and voting.

5. It is certainly a strong card that we should not just hand them.
It is a building block for dictatorship. We must fight and win on this.

7. Not using the Filibuster in fear of the "nuclear" option is like giving
away your ammo because you don't want your gun confiscated...

All I know is that I couldn't agree with you more and the fact of the matter is that the rules of the playground and dealing with the bully apply here. The GOP Bully's led by Frist threaten the Dems with a nuclear option? Fine. Just like the playground bully demanding lunch money, if you hand over the lunch money, the bully will keep coming back for more, even if he promises to leave you alone...for now. But if you fight back and show the Bully that you aren't going to take it, then almost always, the bully backs off. And at this point, this country has EVERYTHING to lose, so the Dems have to stop being fearful of using and "losing" their filibuster option. Personally, I think they need to call the Bully's on their threat. My feeling is that if the Dems filibuster and the GOP follows through on the "nuclear option", then given what's going on in the country right now, especially with the illegal domestic wiretapping, that the backlash on the GOP will be HUGE! Also, it will be one more reason for the GOP to be voted out of the Senate and Congress in '06!

The ultimate irony then ofcourse would be a Dem controlled congress with no filibuster option....I still believe there are many GOP'ers who realize this and are just as fearful of losing the filibuster as some Dems....
