My neighbor is a klan member, and I think our hood is cursed....
So my neighbor comes by tonight while I was on the front porch smoking. I have known him my whole life, we went to school together, played together, and so on (We are both 40 now).

J (his first initial) is no stranger to trouble. He has spent prison time for murder, drugs, theft, counterfeiting, and lord knows what all else (assault comes to mind). When we talk thesedays it's mainly about issues in the 'hood' as we call it or relating to someone dying.

Last week the neighbor across the street from J hung himself. An elderly black gentlemen most people here knew in some way or other, and his wife and my mom were friends and I have been in their house on several occassions.

Long story short on this part: J was the guy who cut him down, and it upset him a bit as J actually liked him quite a bit. Which is how we got onto the title of this OP.

Here is his conversation with me tonight:

"His funeral is tomorrow. That was a good neighbor we lost, and I don't usually say that about colored folk, but I liked him a lot. Hell, I have my SS lightning bolts tatooed on my arm from when I was in prison, and I am a Klan member and go to rallies. Now don't get me wrong, I don't believe everything they say, but I do think ya should shoot mixed race couples, it ain't natural. Even says that in the bible."

And - NO I am not making one iota of that up, and with the exception of some sentence breaks and minor edits to make it intelligable, that is exactly how he said what he said.

This is one of the most crazy and dangerous people I personally know, his whole entire family is like this (some are worse). I could go on about him all night....but now onto the

Curse of the Hood (which I have talked to J and others about quite a bit).

There are 86 houses here. Cut off by two freeways and a creek, we are our own little place.
A recent list I compiled showed 7 deaths here in two years (of well known neighbors, not the transient type). And within the last 10-13 years, 25 dead. Several with 2 or more kids in the family dying. Others are just pretty messed up folks (one who sits in her room all day, her mom is 70 and never driven a car, daughter could drive but won't, and would rather veg and do drugs), my other neighbor who is a dealer and has lost some of kids, had 5 more to make up for it - and they run the streets half dressed. And so many stories about tragedies and such it would take me all night to write them out (and some are really bizzare).

Multiple suicides here over the years. Numerous folks leaving their spouses for other people's, sometimes for their kid (ie, one was 40 and they ran off with the 18 yr old son, and so on). One family lost two kids, one of the other kids is mentally blown after some bad crack, and thankfully the one my age seems ok so far. Child molesters, killers, dealers, users, and more tragedy than a years' full of soap operas on all three networks.

The rumor for years here is that this was an old indian burial ground (hence the name of the place indian oaks).

With neighbors like I have, I am starting to wonder....

The wife wants to move. Me, I sort of think everyplace else might be boring compared to it.

Oh, and the Klan guy. He dosen't vote, but he sure likes bush (though truth be told, he hates all politicians, but he likes bush better then he did kerry).

1. Show him Numbers 12 in the Bible.
Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 12:56 AM by DesertedRose
Moses' wife was Ethiopian.

That should make his head effectively explode.

PS-PM me with the general area where you live so my husband and I can avoid going there unawares and being shot at....

4. I almost schooled him in the bible :)
But J is one of those people you like to keep on your side in this type of place. You can't discuss some things with irrational people, that is one thing I have learned over time.

If you don't agree on something, he just won't listen to the facts because he sees it as someone trying to twist the truth into a lie (ala politicians and spin). On the ethiopian thing he would probably say something like 'well, that don't mean she was colored, and if she was that is why moses never got to see the promised land'. You can't educate those that don't desire it....

8. What really scares me about this:
Like I said, 86 houses here. And I know he is not the only person like this. If one extrapolates that out we get a scary picture of some in society. I know he knows a ton of people, many just like him.

But what is making things worse here, is our two neighbor girls were riding their bikes into the 'north' side of the hood (shaped liked a mangled horseshoe) where several black families live and several of the black kids there told em to get on to their own side of the hood as this side was not for the white kids. Which I found odd as they ride their bikes past my house all the time and I have helped them with their bike issues before.

It seems a racial divide is growing in some ways in the US. Damned scary.

2. Move To Massachusetts
Low crime, amazing schools, good standard of living, reasonable congressional representation...

No suicides or Klan members in my neighborhood as long as I've been here (15 years)

(Winters kinda suck)

5. I am thinking of going back to California or maybe Chicago
I live next door to dad (and my brother and nieces and nephews), which is the only reason I moved back here (that and my kids from previous marriage).

As far as winters - I like em cold and snowy!

9. Barney Frank, Kennedy, Kerry
We're about to have a black Governor - and nobody cares that he's black. Our current Governor is a magic-underwear-wearin' Mormon - and nobody cares about that (although we do care that he's a pig).

Our public schools are the best in the country - my kid goes to (public) school with kids whose parents have net worths in the many millions... there's just no reason to send a kid to public school here. My city (Newton) is the safest in the country - but I can still walk to great and cheap Brazillian, Vietnamese, and other ethnic restaurants.

Housing costs too damned much, but that's improving rapidly.

12. StraightStory,
There are ALOT counties here in Northern California where you can get literally 30 to 70 FEET of snow during a winter season. Come on home, dahlin'. We're waiting for you with open arms. By the way, I'm one of those "Unnatural wives", ( mixed african descent, basically a heinz 57), who happens to be married to a good ole boy from Deepindeharta, Texas, bless his cute little Bohemian heart. If you're living on land that is sacred Indian land, there is something you can do to calm the spirits, sort of mitigating the issues. (My Paternal grandmother was born on a osage seminole reservation in the Everglades, along with a few other nations from which I draw my bloodlines, I have PURE BLOODED cousins who still practice the ancient ways and choose to live on their reservations). This may sound "New Agey" but what can be done to ease the issues with the defiling of the burial ground, immediately surrounding your home, are ancient and VERY effective. Im me, if I can help.

11. Aww, those were nice sheets!
LOL, I haven't seen that pic before, Andy. Do 600-count sheets burn more fiercely than the 300-count stuff?
