Girl Accidentally Shot at Md. Day Care
GERMANTOWN, Md. - A gun brought to a day care center by an 8-year-old boy accidentally went off Tuesday, wounding a 7-year-old girl in the arm, police said.

The boy had the gun in a backpack and was playing with it when it went off at the For Kids We Care center, Montgomery County police spokesman Derek Baliles said.

The girl was taken to Children's Hospital in Washington, he said. Her injury was not considered life-threatening.

There were six children in the center at the time of the shooting, which happened around 7 a.m. No one else was hurt.

1. Have fun at school honey
Try not to get shot . . .

Who are these parents who lose track of their guns? My daughter couldn't even get away with nabbing a pair of my shoes to wear to school without me knowing.

3. Is that true?
He should be charged with reckless endangerment, if that's the case.

9. Nah...My sarcasm. But I think reckless endangerment comes
into play in any event. The gun-freaks letting their kids bring weapons to school are an excellent reason for control. That and the fact that the owners also tend to get drunk and use them on their wives.

23. Considering hunting is basically armed drunks in the woods.....
By the way, I've yet to discover a state that doesn't spend more than it receives administering hunting licenses....

6. Similar thing happened Monday at a NorCal high school
http://www.sacbee.com/content/news/crime/story/14109692p-14939296c.html

Frantic parents descended on Will C. Wood High School in Vacaville on Monday morning after they received word via an emergency communication system that a student had accidentally discharged a handgun in the gymnasium, slightly injuring one teenager.

Vacaville city police arrested a 14-year-old boy on charges of illegally bringing a firearm onto school grounds and recklessly discharging a firearm, police officials said.

(snip)

School officials said the incident began around 9:45 a.m. as about 100 students assembled in the school gymnasium for physical education classes. Suddenly, a handgun discharged, and staff members descended on the 14-year-old boy who had accidentally fired the weapon while fiddling in his backpack.

A 15-year-old girl suffered minor injuries when the discharged bullet hit a wall near her, spraying her with debris, officials said. She was treated at an area hospital and released.

11. I just read the father got arrested
He should be damn grateful the girl wasn't killed. I hope they throw the book at this moron.

Anyone who leaves guns where kids can get them should be prohibited from ever owning a gun again.

21. He's ALREADY prohibited from owning a gun...he's a convicted felon...
and under Federal law, a felon can't so much as touch a single round of ammunition, never mind own a gun.

From the latest Yahoo update:

The father was arrested for gun offenses, and court documents outlined an extensive criminal record.

(snip)

There were six children at the For Kids We Care Inc. daycare center at the time of the shooting, authorities said. Police said the boy had found the gun, a .38-caliber Taurus revolver, in a container in his father's closet.

Police charged John Linwood Hall Sr., 56, with leaving a firearm in a location accessible by an unsupervised minor, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

25. That doesn't bother the Taurus gun company
They basically market their public menace TO criminals....

"According to expert testimony in the landmark Hamilton v. Accu-Tek lawsuit in Brooklyn, New York, from 1989 to 1994, Taurus was "fourteen times overrepresented in...guns used in crime relative to what you would expect just from its share of production. That's a very dramatic difference, indeed."

http://www.vpc.org/press/9912taur.htm

Taurus has been named before in lawsuits as a company that makes no effort to control its distribution chain, and which turns a blind eye to its dealers' wrongdoing.

http://www.courttv.com/archive/business/1999/0212/guns_ctv.html

They're one reason why the corrupt GOP took away every American's right to sue the gun industry for negligence.

19. I'm not going to argue for/against guns in the home.
That's a matter of personal preference. But I think it's irresponsible to have weapons in the home with small children without keeping the weapons in a locked gun cabinet. The father should, at the very least , be charged with neglect and/or criminal negligence.

24. Of course, thanks to the GOP and the crooked gun lobby
He could have walked into any gun show in the neighboring states of West Virginia, Delaware or Virginia and walked out with his gun without undergoing anything like a background check.
