Are we like the stoopidest nation in the world? It took a sex scandal
to bring down the momentum of the mighty GOP.

No, it wasn't that they stole two presidential elections. No, it wasn't the fact that Dick Cheney churned the CIA for data that would help push us into a war with Iraq. No, it wasn't the fact that they knew the information that led us to war was not just one-sided, but false. No, it wasn't that they outed a CIA operative to punish her husband for refuting the White House's pro-war data. No, it wasn't the fact that the Bush Administration allowed illegal eavesdropping of American citizens and torture of detainees in secret prisons. No, it wasn't that they changed the laws to protect Bush because he broke the Geneva Conventions. No, it wasn't the no bid contracts to Halliburton. No, it wasn't the inadequate supplies and treatment that our soldiers get from this new privatized environment. No, it wasn't the utter failure of the federal government to respond to the Katrina catastrophe. No, it wasn't the continual burying of scientific data that would have tipped us off to Global Warming, or would have stopped the merger of media outlets.

No, it wasn't any one of those major reasons that stopped the momentum of the mighty GOP. What did it take? Another freakin sex scandal. What does that REALLY say about us as a nation?

Its a hidden motto of the republican party,
"My kingdom for a tight anus." it reads, partly obscured on celtic memorials
buried on the northern Orkney isles.

28. Republicans DEMAND higher taxes!
No honest republican will accept a tax based on
his/her own children's cost, gladly paying all such costs
themselves (leaving momma and dadda bush a bit waiting for
the bankrupting legal precedent...)

More taxes for republicans is the new republican motto,
rich fuck the rich is the new 4 worder... rftr (easy to remember) - 2 r's

Most Americans don't give a shit about or don't understand the big issues. But they can sure get excited about sleazy stuff like this.
Not surprising given what passes for prime time entertainment here in the good ole USA.

15. Sex is soooo..... ya know, evil. I was travelling through a small
town where there were two churches within a block of one another. This was a small town and a terrible thought ocurred to me.... I would have liked to stop in one of the places of worship there and inform the deacon or whatever that people were having sex in his town on a nightly basis perhaps... just to see what his/her reaction might be... mebbe we would have a sermon "on the mount" so to speak in the weeks to come.

20. You might be on to something.
We as a nation do not seem to value reading. I search for my news on the internet. The news on t.v. shows pretty ways to create things to eat, wear, and do with yourself. But there is very little about the Coup in America. Maybe that is going a bit to far, but why has our country been blown up, blown away, robbed of it's national guard, and it's banks.

21. I think it's cute that people think this is going to matter....
..really.

I mean does anyone not see this following the same path as every bad for the GOP news/revelation from the past 6 years?

Step 1: Something bad for the GOP is revealed.
Step 2: Response is "It's a lie. It's not true."
Step 3: Irrefutable proof is given that it is true.
Step 4: Response is "Well it is true but it's not a big deal and people just don't care that much about it. It's a non scandal."
Step 5: Proof is given that people do care about it and think it is bad.
Step 6: Response is "Well, people care about it but some democrat did something vaguely similar 15 years ago so they should care that the democrats do it as well."
Step 7: Cable news then picks up the "Both sides do this type of thing" meme and reiterate this in every report on the topic.
Step 8: Joe and Jane average see this as "Politics as usual. Both sides stink." and shut it out and go to the voting booth and end up voting for the familiar and the comfortable no matter how reprehensible that may be.

And if you want to get more extensive you can insert these in between:

Step 1.5: Liberal blogs and message boards start in on the frenzy over the topic. "This is it the GOP is toast!!!!"
Step 2.5: Liberal blogs and message boards double their posts on the topic. "This is it the GOP is toast!!!!!"
Step 5.5: Liberal blogs and message boards triple their posts on the topic "This is it the GOP is toast!!!!!!!"
Step 7.5: Liberal blogs and message boards begin to fixate on how horrible the media coverage is on the topic and allow themselves to get distracted by shiny objects.

I wish it weren't like this but after 6 years of this shit I fail to see how any of this is going to be different.

25. Doesn't say much about us...
but if it takes a sex scandal to stop these maniacs, I'll take it. I do wish children didn't have to be hurt to get to this point.

That is why this won't be ignored by the Republicans... it involves not only sex but children getting hurt by one (or more) of their own.

30. Look. The fucking republicans have "earned" most of their votes
(the ones they haven't stolen, for that matter) by playing up this idiotic "family values" crap, and getting rabid, Left Behind Loony end-timers, creationists, and other whackjob fundy conservatives to go to the polls consistently. They've alienated most of the rest of their base, but those folks are the 30% or so who still LOVE Bush.

The short answer to your question? Yes. There are a lot of dumb fuckin' Merkins out there. But a SEX scandal is about the only thing that will get their attention. They don't care if they've been lied to about Iraq, they don't give a shit about torture, they don't give a flying Philadelphia fuck about the Constitution... but the idea that the GOP, the shining Christian Knights they're counting on to criminalize contraception and bring mandatory prayer back to public schools, might not be the pristine virginal bastion of moral purity that they've been deluding themselves it is? THAT could be a big fuckin' chink in their armor.

Plus, it's the only thing the corporate owned media gives a damn about. You take what you can get.

And if a sex act was what brought down Clinton, then turnabout is fair play.

39. Parents and other family have basic instincts
like protecting their young against sexual predators. That other Republicans let someone continue to prey on children should bring them all down. How can anyone ever trust these people or believe them again? When they found out, they told their Republican Party bosses and not the police? What would you do? Ignore it? Parents usually have no time for anything but working and taking care of their kids, unless they are really rich like Republicans who have time to stalk kids. I have a few Republican friends who have kids and this is not going away with them or my Democratic friends either. Trust has been broken. Maybe they will start thinking about all the other things they believed were good about these people and see through it. Keeping us safe? Yeah, right.
