Video :DU'rs Symbolman, Stranger Debate Foley on MSNBC's Scarborough show

Here's a goodie for those who haven't seen it - American Stranger and I debated with FOLEY on MSNBC's Scarborough Country when we were Boycotting Limbaugh, to great effect I might add, scared them so much I was on both O'Reilly and Scarbourgh within days.

A few things to watch out for: NUMBER ONE, I mention the DU - basically each time I've made a media appearance I hawk the site, that's how important it is to all of us, more than ever..

Number TWO: Foley making a remark about, "How hard it would be to penetrate Limbaugh.." (my personal favorite),

Three: And Scarborough making fun of my hat, like THAT'S all he's got?

Not to mention that He Threatens to turn off our Microphones in the first half of the debate!

The bad part was, I had been Told by my wife's friend from college, a Lobbyist in Washington DC, that Foley was WELL KNOWN in that town for wanting to Sex YOUNG BOYS. And that was PLURAL, not one, BOYS. This was BEFORE the 2003 date that TPM is mentioning on his fine site, and I hope people realise that this boy licker has been doing this a LONG TIME. Let's not put a date on WHEN this clown was abusing children, and give them any slack, like he clicked one day, he's been at it a LOOONG Time.

It was all I could do to keep from outing him as a child abuser right there on the show, bit off yards of tongue, but in the end I decided that he was in Congress and could probably really put the hurt on me and my family. Not to mention we were already being sued by Michael Savage back them for a half a million bucks.

So for those of you who can watch windows media, here it is, I think DU'r, American Stranger should be praised for bitchslapping the hell outta these people :)

15. What a weird-ass day that was...

Sym was in SoCal at the time, Foley was in Florida, Scar was in either Jersey or DC, and I was in some dinky little sattelite studio on Long Island.

I could see nor hear nothing until we were actually on the air - and then it was feed from MSNBC that was showing on a monitor that was off to my right - I was basically staring into a camera in a small room, and trying to look 'natural.'

Add to that the MSNBC producer in Jersey yelling in my ear to be more energetic and 'confrontational,' because 'the audience loves that.'

My fave line was something about sneakers and Yankee Stadium. Weird. :)

Thanks for bringing that back, Sym. I'll check it later - it's always an endurance test to watch myself on video before I have to turn it off.

44. LOL, when my husband was on H&C

they sent a car to pick us up and take us to KC to their contract studio not their local Fox affiliate. The room they used was really, really small. The backdrop was about six inches behind him and the camera was set up about three feet in front of him. He didn't have a monitor so he couldn't see anyone while he was on. He said that felt really strange. His audio feed limited but he didn't get any encouragement to confront either Hannity or Colmes. ;)

I was up the hallway in another room and had both audio and video feeds. I heard mostly things like "cut to camera X," but not much else until one point during the interview when I heard someone say "Sean's through" and immediately - and while my husband was still answering Sean's question - Colmes started talking. I noticed that Sean didn't appear again until the next segment. Apparently when they say "Sean's through" and do the toss to Colmes Sean wanders off.

On the way homeI found out that my husband wasn't getting the same audio feed I was so he didn't hear the "Sean's through" comment. Since then, whenever we watch Fox, one of us will say "(fill in host name)'s through" and start laughing.

fwiw, I got coffee and my husband got water. Both were served in plastic SOLO cups.

This MSNBC gig wasn't too bad, and I was pancaked in orange crap, in downtown LA.. the makeup artist was a trip, he'd done everyone, had fun stories to pass the time, and they gave me a Sprite too.

BUT on the O'Reilly show it was more like a CIA interrogation. We got a limo sent for us, so we're thinking "COOL, this'll be FUN", but once we got to the studio we got led downstairs and stuck in a room with a couch in it that looked like Monkeys had been spunking all over, couldn't sit anywhere, thought something would STICK to me if I did - then I asked for a drink, they pointed at a coke machine, all we had was credit cards, no coins, tough luck there..

So I looked for a cup, no luck, and when I looked in the sink I thought for a moment it was a toilet, but bravely sucked some water from the tap, they KNOW you get dry, they like it that way. THe whole scene was to make sure you felt overpowered.

Got led into a room all black with background, stuck in a chair with an earplug that was too short, so I couldn't wag my head or turn it much, with that Idiot Screaming in my ear, no idea if I was live or not (my first time), all the Lights went out, except for the one overhead in my face that I'm sure Aliens used to stun their prey.

They told me to face a Black BOX, no cues, just a black box in a black room, no monitor, nothing.

O'Reilly comes on in my ear, they test the sound levels, and then moments later I'm ON. And so I'm sitting there in the dark with that FOOL stepping all over me, tho I got some good shots in (got emails of some folks saying they were all standing up and CHEERING in their livingrooms, that REALLY warms the heart - got 1400 emails, some death threats, etc).. and later when I rushed home to watch, there I was on the screen, just like me and O'Reilly were buddies in the same room. Not the experience I had at all.

TOTAL CONTROL of the subject, it takes a lot of guts to do that, having done it a few times, I really appreciate those who fight for us on the tube all the time, we have no idea what they are going through while they try to parry and feign and expose these clowns on their own show.

FOX really SUCKS, MSNBC has more class, did CNN, the Lou Dobbs show, wasn't bad, but they interviewed me for 20 minutes then used maybe 8 seconds of my appearance, talked me all up before that of course, bet they did the same to your hubby, some snot nosed production person waxing your aura :)

Yeah, the old CUT OFF switch, they have a button where they can TURN YOU DOWN while they talk, so it appears you aren't answering, etc and they use it all the time, moreso on Radio, but on TV as well...

Like "Elvis has left the building" for Hannity? BARF!! LOL :)

Sean kept trying to overtalk him so my husband (very cool, calm and collected) said "excuse me for trying to answer your question while you were interrupting me." It was shortly after that exchange that Sean decided he was through. :rofl:

The strangest thing about the whole event was the time delay. It was like a badly synched movie. As I said, I was up the hallway in another room where the equipment was located. I was watching two monitors - one had the feed from Fox and the other was the studio feed. I'd hear Sean talking before I saw his lips moving. It was a little disconcerting. When we saw a replay everything was synched up just fine but I do think it helps explain why some guests seem to just sit there for a moment before they react. Unfortunately, most people who watch the shows don't understand that there can be feed delays to the guest at remote locations.

As for make-up, I think they did a quick powder job and then left the room. No pancake here. We got there before the show started and within minutes we were shown the room they set-up for the interview. One of the things that was amusing to me was that because the room was so small they had to set up the camera right in front of him. I could hear the Fox people complaining how big my husband was on the screen. Naturally they couldn't have my husband look bigger than their puppets so when he came on the screen they did a lot of closeups of Sean so that he would be the same size. LOL.

From what I recall the only cue they gave him was "go" right after Sean's short intro into their segment. His appearance was live so there wasn't any danger that they would cut, snip and spin it.

fwiw, my husband was defending Al Gore. Sean and Alan were trying the old "Gore is mentally unstable" line and tried to prove it by showing part of Gore's speech where he was passionately telling the truth about Bush's incompetency. My husband was veering the conversation towards the merits of what Gore said and not playing their game. That's when Sean started interrupting him and then came the words "Sean's through". We thought that was especially telling. They don't want to talk about the merits of the issues because it is easier for them to fling their usual RW talking points that all Democrats are crazy.

Before my husband's appearance we watched H&C for several days. We had friends doing the same thing. He wanted to be prepared and I think he did a great job. We anticipated what they would say (i.e. the usual talking points) and it really helped. We basically knew what they were going to say and do before he went on air because it is the same thing they always try to do. We even went through a number of speeches and used mediamatters, dailyhowler and DU as our resources to prepare (thank you DU!) and the clip they showed was one that he was prepared to defend. The always use the same old forumla so it is easy to overcome when you prepare. But you are correct, don't let them take total control. Instead, use judo and turn their arguments against them. Once you do that they try to change the subject but don't let them. Keep them focused on their original remarks by parroting their questions/statements and then point out the flaws or the fact they are trying to change the subject.

If I can find a copy of the interview on-line I'll PM you and let you watch it.

I don't watch any MSM, except for clips people recommend on the Internet. I canceled my cable TV right after the last election, but maybe I ought to get it again just to study these peoples' tactics (with a barf bag in my lap).

I didn't mind watching that clip knowing that Foley had recently resigned, and that look on his face brought back memories of life in the Bible Belt.

Seems funny to me that it's usually democrats that get nailed in consensual heterosexual sex scandals, while republicans get it for homosexual acts or prostitution.

I couldn't watch any new source once bush was installed, used to be a news junky, but when they announced he'd won (and at 53 I've seen a Lot of tv), I knew the fix was in, and I had to go to the bathroom, I was physically Ill. I think I turned off CNN for six months after that, and 911 brought me back to tv..

But I realised back in 2000 that the MEDIA is the KEY to all of it, it creates the REALITY that so many people live "in", and don't realize it. Their thoughts, emotions, attitudes are shaped by that very Box, the one that tells stories which all humans USED to do around a fire, for SANE reasons, to draw us together, pass on wisdom, etc..

we are hard wired for STORIES, and they know that, so hey supply FALSE Myths and Icons, and many people become repeater stations for propaganda at the water cooler, in the line at the store, etc.

So we have to HIT THEM HARD at the story telling level, another reason I'm writing a book now, I think I can reach more people on a subject with a STORY, than making the Flash's like at Takebackthemedia.com all these years, tho we had 100 million hits in our first year alone.

They are training our little ones to accept insanity as reality, that divides us, and then we are conquered. Fear is just the topping, creamy just like they like it. The right wing has been taking over the media, actually the Corps are worse, since the 50's. Should write a book about that next.

Thanks so much for the support, we've been at least TRYING, and it will take all of us to change ALL of our Minds and Heal ourselves :)

Notice how Foley says 15 million listeners a week. Rush is on daily. That's only 3 million listeners who tune in everyday. Thats not the first time I've heard that lie.
