Don't ask -- he won't tell
GOP Senate hopeful Mark Foley announces he won't answer questions about his sexuality. Should voters care?

May 23, 2003 | On Thursday afternoon, Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla. -- a possible candidate for the Senate in 2004 -- held a conference call with a handful of Florida reporters that perfectly captured a dilemma in which he finds himself. The subject of the call was the same matter that he refused to directly address within the call, and it is the one that has quietly dogged him for years: Is he, or is he not, a heterosexual?

--------------------

Randi Rhodes said yesterday it was pretty much common knowledge that Foley is gay, and that his Democratic opponents would always take the high road and not make it an issue. In general, Randi seemed to say that Foley really is an OK guy except now he's crossed the line morally by making passes at a kid.

1. What really seems to be a dead giveaway is when they get seniority
in the party and then are shot down in some way for a leadership position or backing for a run at something and there is NEVER any rhyme or reason to why, it just happens and everyone is silent about it. Notice Dreier who should have been the majority leader, but got shot down immediately. Then when they desperately needed a credible candidate to run for Senate in Florida, they simply ignored the possibility of Foley running even though he had said he was interested.

4. "Foley wouldn't discuss if he is or is not gay"
"Am I making you horny?"

Is Foley gay, or simply sexually attracted to young men. :eyes:

8. In Randi's defense...
I may not have summarized what she said accurately. She was saying was that Foley is not an asshole Republican and that she even had him on his show. Randi never implied anything like he's ok for a pedophile, or he's ok but he's a pedophile. She seemed more like he's a nice guy and its a shame he was doing something like this.
