blowback-to our soldiers and citizens
In all the posts about the "torture" issue, I have yet to see this mentioned:

If...the US government has abrogated the Geneva Conventions and allows torture of foreigners...

Then...what is to stop foreign governments from torturing captured US soldiers or citizens?

So far everyone seems to have been looking at the legislation only from the US point of view (which is quite horrific enough), rather than that of another government.

If the shoe were on other foot... then what?

(comes under heading of Karma)

2. Someone told me, in response to this question...
"they already don't follow the Geneva Conventions. That is why we need this, to be able to fight them with their own tactics." All I could do was blink and say "oh. seriously?" They said yes.

5. reply
"What current foreign government is systematically torturing prisoners who are US soldiers or citizens? The 'terrorists' don't take prisoners, they just kill outright. So, to which government are you referring?"

6. Thank you for that.
Been trying to figure out how to politely answer. Or at least succinctly without resorting to violence or walking away. Thank you.

3. I believe McCain, et al, brought that issue up a few weeks ago
And, it's a valid point. The Geneva Convention has been JUST FINE for decades, but all of a sudden we need some A-hole cowboy to tell us that it needs "clarification"???
