President Bush Job Approval
September 30, 2006

Photo Courtesy of whitehouse.gov The President's job approval among American adults fell a point today to 39% making it the first drop below 40% since early August. Fifty-eight percent (58%) disapprove of the way the President is performing his job.

President Bush receives approval among 44% of Caucasians and 29% of Americans of other ethnicities. His lowest approval rating, however, is among African Americans at a mere 9%.

On a state-by-state basis, in 21 of 27 states surveyed by Rasmussen Reports recently the percentage of those who disapprove of the President’s job performance outweighs the percentage of those who approve. Bush fares exceptionally poorly in Oregon, Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Washington(see State-by-State summary).

While not where he wants his numbers to be, the President can take some solace in the fact that the United Nations fares far worse. Just 31% have a favorable opinion of the world body. Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, who last week compared President Bush to the Devil, is viewed favorably by 10%.

The Pope, criticized by some for recent comments, is viewed favorably by most Americans. Just 25% believe he should apologize for his comments.

The Republican Party is clinging to a narrow lead in the race for control of the United States Senate. The Rasmussen Reports Senate Balance of Power summary currently shows 49 seats in the Republican column, 48 for the Democrats, and three Toss-Up races. (see State-by-State Summary). Our most recent shift on the Balance of Power occurred when the Washington Senate race moved from "Dem" back to "Lean Dem."

3. Half of that 39% approval, only somewhat approve.
While 20 percent strongly approve, 19% somewhat approve. Yet 42% strongly disapprove while only 16% somewhat disapprove. Those are some seriously bad numbers. Only 20% of Americans back the pResident. If he were a real man, he would resign.

4. Bush can't blame Republicans in Congress for his 'popularity'.
Bush Republicans only seem interested in oversight when Democrats are in office.

Bush can't fault the media, either. They have supported his Iraq delusion and have consistantly ignored all of the clearly illegal/immoral actions out of this administration.

But the American people don't need Republicans or their Syndicate partners in the broadcast media to tell them what a turd looks and smells like.

42% strongly disapprove. I expect that number to climb with the suspension of habeas corpus.
