Ted "internet tubes" Stevens: protects Tele/com from litigation for spying
Edited on Sat Sep-30-06 09:34 AM by IChing
In the port protection bill he added a rider, but it has not been passed yet...time for us to do more work with our "Congress"

A second proposed add-on to the bill would shield telephone companies from liability for privacy violations if they supply the U.S. government with access to customer records.

This idea came from Alaskan Sen. Ted Stevens, Republican sources said, but the House leadership source said it had drawn opposition. Proponents of such legislation have argued that it is necessary for homeland security.

1. Why is it every time these politicians
try to increase "Homeland Security" I wind up feeling less secure?

2. We know who owns Congress
We are talking about major money here folks in the 10s and 100 of millions of dollars.

. The Center for Public Integrity compiled a list
of the top 100 money-givers to Congress
between 1998 and 2005,
and telcos, oil, war and of course health and drug companies dominate the list.

Here are a few of its findings:
telecommunications

* Verizon Communications Inc. $81,870,000
* SBC Communications Inc. $58,035,037
* AT&T Corp. $53,349,499
* Sprint Corp. $47,276,585
* BellSouth Corp. $33,732,827
* Qwest Communications International Inc. $24,523,480
