Charities, Churches and Politics..WILL YOU HELP ME!
Charities, Churches and Politics

The ban on political campaign activity by charities and churches was created by Congress 52 years ago. The Internal Revenue Service administers the tax laws written by Congress and has enforcement authority over tax-exempt organizations. Here is some background information on the political campaign activity ban and the latest IRS enforcement statistics regarding its adminstration of this congressional ban.

the Internal Revenue Code, all section 501(c)(3) organizations are absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office. Contributions to political campaign funds or public statements of position (verbal or written) made on behalf of the organization in favor of or in opposition to any candidate for public office clearly violate the prohibition against political campaign activity. Violation of this prohibition may result in denial or revocation of tax-exempt status and the imposition of certain excise tax.

Everytime you read that a Church is working Politics I want to do a massive mailing campaign to the IRS repoting their ass. Its made perfectly clear by the IRS that no Church or Charity is to take part in politics in anyway, shape or form.

The necessatities:
Name and Address of the Church
Article that shows their activitiy in politics with the article link, use the PRINT ENTIRE PAGE and do not copy and paste it to Word.
If you can locate their Tax Status as being EXEMPT, that would be helpful.

Once you obtain that information, provide it here on DU, that will make things go much faster and get letters out to the IRS sooner.
