Um...shouldn't it be a piece of cake to get Hastert removed?
He knew about Foley's antics for a year now and left him in his position with no punishment at all? Never said a word about it publicly? As Americablog put it: Why did Hastert leave Foley in charge of the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children when he knew Foley had some possible personal issues involving the exploitation of children?

Shouldn't this be a slam dunk case to get Hastert to resign as Speaker at least?

2. One thing that average Republicans at least claim to stand for is
children. Shouldn't we expect leagues of Republicans to demand for Hastert's resignation as well as soon as this particular part of the Foley case gains traction?

3. Whatever happened to the ethics investigation into that sale of land
he owned that was near an area that was being marked out for an interstate highway? Didn't he decide where the highway was supposed to go or something?

He's a fat slug. That's common knowledge. Corrupt as hell. So are all repubs. And I'm sure that he could rattle of shitloads of scandals that he is either involved in or knows about.

He won't be going anywhere unfortunately.

7. We need to ask the Republicans if they think he should resign
I want to give every Republican a chance to defend Hastert. Let us see if they support people who solicit sex from minors chairing on the Caucus for Missing and Exploited Children. Ask them if they think that Hastert was right to not do anything. Ask them if they think Hassert should resign. I want to hear where the party stands not just on Foley, but on everyone that knew about him and did nothing.

13. The House has decided to throw Foley under the bus.
From Roll Call, via Josh Marshall:

“Congressman Foley told the Clerk and me that he was simply acting as a mentor to this former House Page and that nothing inappropriate had occurred. Nevertheless, we ordered Congressman Foley to cease all contact with this former House Page to avoid even the appearance of impropriety. We also advised him to be especially mindful of his conduct with respect to current and former House Pages, and he assured us he would do so. I received no subsequent complaints about his behavior nor was I ever made aware of any additional emails.

“It has become clear to me today, based on information I only now have learned, that Congressman Foley was not honest about his conduct.

“As Chairman of the House Page Board, I am working with the Clerk to fully review this incident and determine what actions need to be taken.

“The House Page Program has been an integral part of the House of Representatives for many decades. Preserving the integrity of the House Page Program is of utmost importance to me and to the House of Representatives, and we intend to uphold and protect its values and traditions.”

17. I think so.
This is worse than Trent Lott's little slip that got him removed. A porrly thought out off hand remark did him in. Hastert is complicit, or appears to be in letting this go on. This will not go down well with the fundies, not at all. Unless they can keep it quiet of course.
