Met my first DUer in the 3D world today. IMPORTANT MESSAGE TOO!
I knew before I met him in person. He works for MoveOn. I talked to him on the phone, told him I would come in and phonebank. That night, I went on the Colorado DUer board and there was a poster asking if people would like to come in and phonebank.

So I asked if he was the guy that called me. Lo and behold, it was indeed. So I went to their office tonight and was lucky enough to shake hands with him. We talked DU a bit in between phone calls.

Now I need to add the second part to this post:

We are all laptop warriors here. Now is the time to put our money where our mouths are.

EVERYBODY HERE CAN VOLUNTEER AND WORK ON GETTING OUT THE VOTE IN 5 WEEKS! EVERYBODY!

MoveOn will even allow you to phonebank from home. ONE HOUR A WEEK IS ALL THEY'RE ASKING! It doesn't have to be MoveOn. Volunteer for the DNC. Whatever. But volunteer!

Don't let November come and go and end up sitting there at Thanksgiving saying to yourself, "I didn't do ALL that I could do.".

And if you're reading...hello LeviathanCrumbling :hi:

9. FYI
Many of us are out there working in the 3D as you put it, along with being here. I've noticed a lot of people chastising DUers lately for not going out and doing our part and it's just faulty reasoning. I'm sure there are some who are only laptop warriors but many if not most here are also real time activists.

12. Hey...being a laptop warrior isn't a bad thing.
The internet is what made me (and many I know) so much more politically active...along with giving me access to massive amounts of information that can be gathered in short periods for my research into any and all of my political questions.

My post was merely meant as a reminder. I "motivate" in ways that some people find rough. Sorry if I offended you.

And thank you for your activism.

16. It wasn't you specifically
I used you as a jumping off point to mention a concerning trend.

Not offended but rather concerned about an evolving meme.

10. My response is to say thanks for the reminder.
There is no excuse for me or my wife to do nothing but wait for election day.
For my part I am contacting our local democratic headquarters monday and
offering our services. It's make or break time. To be honest I would just as soon stuff envelopes than
make phone calls but maybe I'll warm up to it once I'm working around others
who are doing the job. I would rather speak to people on the street than over a
phone so maybe that's what they will have me do.
Anyway you are so right. Gotta walk the talk..:kick:

Part of what pushes me out of my inertia is the torture bill.
Some future relative, some child who is related to great
grand dad me will be looking at my pictures and asking
what I did when the Constitution was being destroyed.
Well, stuffing envelopes may not be defending the Alamo
but it's the first step.

18. I passed through Asheville a couple of weeks ago...
driving one of my companies stage back from 6 week long set up we did at the Family Circle Cup Stadium in Charleston. And then there was driving there to set it up...and back...and going back for another event a couple of weeks later...and back...

You have a beautiful state....and now you've got me addicted to shrimp and grits!

15. I gave money to 5 candidates today
None of which are in my state even. I got the email from MoveOn myself, wish I could do that as well, but I can't. People who are good at this sort of thing and have time should definitely put some time in! We can't let this one slip away people!

20. Great!
I don't have time.

I work in production...along with my winter gig beginning on Wednesday...I pick up as many extra gigs as possible...because I need the cash to rehab my house. And that's what I do in my spare time...bring a 100 year old house back from the dead.

My Fiance's finishing up her degree and getting ready for graduate school. And my job is to support us. So I work no less than 40hrs. usually somewhere between 60-80.

But 1 hour a week (or here and there) for 5 weeks...for something as important as this. I just cut out the little bit of free time I have. My Honey's a bit bummed because it cuts into our time. But it's important to her too.

Got to go get ready for an all day gig.

Check back later all!

19. I agree....
and I thought about that last night. But I worked all day, went and phonebanked. And now I'm going to work all day as well.

I'll just keep bumping it.
