Peculiar automated phone call this afternoon: " Do you plan to vote?
Nov 7th?"

I reply, "Oh, you bet I do!"

Stern voice: "You will be contacted again."

Very stern male voice recording.

Too bad for them - male authority figures don't do it for me.

2. Document this. If it's intimidation, state law probably provides you the
legal right to record it. In one party states, any call can be recorded. This is likely vote suppression by somebody.

8. Good point. Guess I have to dig that little recorder up outta the desk
Interesting point, in my county, I am one of less than a dozen registered DEMS. We could hold meetings in an old VW bug.

And I have been pretty active about pointing out the various transgressions of Conrad Burns. Bad bad havocmom ;)

12. By implying you might not vote..they are trying to get you to stay home?
The assumption is you may not vote. Cause you know..you don't have to if you don't want to.

The stern voice is for those that say "yes". Bad dem. Bad, bad Dem.

13. It Might Be A Democrat
The problem with phone polling and solicitation now is many numbers are either fax or data lines or cellphones that aren't being used. Random dialing, which used to be a common method, is a lot more difficult and more expensive now. Many campaigns buy phone liest from various sources and then turn them over to a polling organization or phone bank that is in another city or state. My bets are that call was just to see if you were a live body as opposed to running into squeals or an automated answering machine. Making random calls today is a major waste of money...thus a short call like that saves them the time and money and gives a live body information they can follow up on.

I'd be more suspect if you got a call where there was a live voice who started to ask your voting preferences without taking basic demographic information (age, sex, religion) and just launches into "questions". It appears the Swift Boaters are very active in push polling this year (TPM has stories about it) and itsa technique that has been proven to supress voters who get spooked by the calls.

Hopefully it's a legit campaign just updating a list..and I even hope its a Democrat since that means someone's reaching out to you and that your vote means something.

Cheers...

14. WAY to stern/authoritarian for DEM call
If just to update a list, it would be GOP call. DEMS are few and far between where I live. We can hold county party meetings in an old VW Bug - seriously.

Get a lot of calls from NRA and groups like that just due to the area demographics. I like to play along a bit just to hear what their latest campaign is. ;)
