Has anyone gotten a phone call from 111 111 1111
Edited on Fri Sep-29-06 08:55 PM by REDSTATELIBERAL
on caller ID it says unknown and then that number. I have called the phone company but they do not have an answer as to where it it coming from or how to stop it. It started a 4 days ago and it repeats 6 or so times a day & night.

3. Sometimes, at work, I get a 000-000-0000 or something similar
Sometimes it's a telemarketing firm trying to sell us stuff we don't need. Sometimes it might be bill collectors looking for a co-worker. Once, it was the city police looking for some guy who apparently used to work in our department and now has a warrant hanging over his head.

5. You should go oer to DU metaphysical board and ask them -
Something in the numbers that you need to take to heart? Haven't heard of this though. Strange.

6. Looks like it's some some way to get around "no anonymous calls" feature.

7. Yes, caller ID spoofer. My advice ...
Check out your phone company's optional services. Mine offers one that lets you block out certain numbers, so that when they call, it says something like: "Your call was successfully made, but this customer has call screening activated and is not accepting calls from your number."

There's another service that prevents calls from coming through if the person's identity is hidden on ID, unless they identify themselves. If they refuse to do so, the call doesn't even ring through. :)

8. Do you have call blocking?
Edited on Fri Sep-29-06 09:04 PM by BattyDem
We used to have call blocking ...
"Unknown" numbers were filtered and we could screen them. 111-111-1111 showed up on the Caller ID when the number was blocked. When we answered, the callers had to identify themselves to the operator, who then asked if we wanted to except the call.

We originally added this feature to eliminate the telemarketers, but since the Do-Not-Call list was created, call blocking isn't really needed anymore. We forgot about it until we got a 111-111-1111 for the first time in years, LOL!

9. I think this is caused by a company misprogramming their phone systems
I *think* many large company phone systems let you program the caller-ID number that people see when you call them. For example, if you work at a desk in a cube-farm and you have to call a client, your phone number could be 510-555-9873, but in the caller-ID it could show 510-555-9800 (the main company number).

Disreputable companies (crooked telesales calls, for example) will purposely misprogram the number to make it more difficult to track back to them.

11. It gets aggravating as heck
our recorder picks up at 4 rings, there is never a message. I have to wait and look at the caller ID every time because our office in in our home and I am afraid of missing a customer's call.

14. What do you hear when you answer? Silence? Beeps?
It could be a fax spammer. At some point I got on a fax spam list at an old phone number, and it was a nightmare. Phone would ring at 4 am. I only figured it out when I hooked a fax machine up to the line in desperation.

16. I haven't answered it. I figure, if it is for us they
would leave a message. I get unknown caller on the caller ID with some customers but this one has the "unknown 111-111-1111" and it comes day & night. Looks to weird to answer.

19. If you don't answer, you'll never get it to stop.
That fax thing drove me crazy for a long time. Once I figured out what it was I was able to put an end to it. Turns out it's highly illegal to spam people by fax.

18. It could be from a VoIP Phone
Edited on Fri Sep-29-06 10:36 PM by AnnieBW
Some of the voice over IP services, like Skype, list 111-111-1111 or 123-456-7890 as their caller ID numbers. It's because it's not going through the telephone network, but coming over the broadband lines. The phone company can't track it, either, because it's not on their network. Sounds to me like one of your friends is using SkypeOut or a similar service. Or, it could be from a telemarketer, or someone else using a Private Branch Exchange (PBX). When my husband calls me from work on our home phone, the caller ID comes up "Private Number".
