AP: Gingrich Urges Overriding Supreme Court
Gingrich Urges Overriding Supreme Court

The Associated Press
Friday, September 29, 2006; 5:07 PM

WASHINGTON -- Supreme Court decisions that are "so clearly at
variance with the national will" should be overridden by the other
branches of government, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich says.

"What I reject, out of hand, is the idea that by five to four, judges
can rewrite the Constitution, but it takes two-thirds of the House,
two-thirds of the Senate and three-fourths of the states to equal
five judges," Gingrich said during a Georgetown University Law Center
conference on the judiciary.

Gingrich, a Republican who represented a district in Georgia, noted
that overwhelming majorities in Congress had reaffirmed the Pledge
of Allegiance, and most of the public believes in its right to recite it.

He spoke at Thursday's panel discussion on relations between the
executive, judicial and legislative branches of government.

1. An opening salvo to dismantle the SCOTUS?
Why is anyone listening to anything Gingrich says anyway?

10. Actually much of the remaining GOP base
In central Minnesota (MN-6 district), at the GOP district convention Newt was the one that most of the delegates wanted when they did a presidental straw poll.

2. He only believes in overriding the SC when it suits his party.
Obviously, if the Supreme Court voted to allow people to torture their asshole government officials, and the majority of Americans approved, he'd whistle a different tune!!!

3. Surely the Supremes will not tamper with the national will for torture,
suspension of habeas corpus, and the infallibility of a single decider no matter how unconstitutional. Add Gingrich to a growing list of un- and anti-American cretins who must hate our Republic and Constitution. Achtung!

4. Laying the groundwork...
This is what they'll be saying should SCOTUS overturn the torture law.

6. SURE- this is about the "Pledge", Newt...
...it COULDN'T have anything to do with the unconstitutional torture law passed less than 24 hours ago and DEFINITELY has NOTHING to do with Alberto Gonzalez warning Judges early today about "judicial activism"....By the way,if one of us suggested ignoring or voiding a decision of the Supreme Court wouldn't that be treason? Just askin'...

7. Does he mean like Bush v Gore that overthrew the will of the people?
Some historian. The Legislative Branch expresses the will of the majority and the Judicial Branch protects minority rights in accordance to the CONSTITUTION.

Newt is an oily stupid fuck.

11. I hate these people
They whine and cry like little children when they don't get their way. They wipe their ass on the Constitution and try to dress it up as something noble. I bet he wasn't nearly so ready to disband the Supreme Court after Bush v. Gore. I can't stand these f*ckers. Maybe Thomas Jefferson and the rest of the founding fathers were a bit smarter than you are Newtie. Did you ever think of that? Shouldn't he be chasing after a 23 year old and staying the hell off my TV?
