Spin This! Rummy impeded bin laden efforts BEFORE 9/11
The 537-page book describes tensions among senior officials from the very beginning of the administration. Mr. Woodward writes that in the weeks before the Sept. 11 attacks, Mr. Tenet believed that Mr. Rumsfeld was impeding the effort to develop a coherent strategy to capture or kill Osama bin Laden. Mr. Rumsfeld questioned the electronic signals from terrorism suspects that the National Security Agency had been intercepting, wondering whether they might be part of an elaborate deception plan by Al Qaeda.

On July 10, 2001, the book says, Mr. Tenet and his counterterrorism chief, J. Cofer Black, met with Ms. Rice at the White House to impress upon her the seriousness of the intelligence the agency was collecting about an impending attack. But both men came away from the meeting feeling that Ms. Rice had not taken the warnings seriously.

2. During that time period
there were many small items in the news that told anyone paying attention that something was up. Some in my family were upset with me way back then because of my bitching about them, now they don't want to remember what I said.

11. Why wasn't all this in "Plan of Attack?"
Woodward's had easy access to the WH throughout the Bush administration. Why wasn't all this stuff in Plan of Attack?

12. The information
about Rice ignoring Tenet & Black's attempts to nail Usama bin Laden are perhaps the most damaging thing in the entire book.

13. Couple that with the fact they hid this from the 9/11 Commission
and the damage becomes even more extensive, imo.

17. The fact they have
hid this, from the 9/11 Commission and from the public, is outrageous.

Interesting timing, considering the Bill Clinton public spanking of the Fox News lap dog, too. This and the Colin Powell information are almost like pieces of a puzzle falling together for the general public. (Of course, if people read DU, they would already know most of what passes for "news" today!)

21. I have always believed nothing, in politics, happens in isolation from
other "things". The timing is, indeed, interesting. It seems the facts surrounding the actions taken, or NOT taken, by the bush cabal are coming to light in a manner that may well remove the blinders many of the public have been wearing. What is particularly fascinating to me are the diverse "factions" now working to bring those facts to light whereas, previously, it was primarily the democrats.

26. I agree completely, and
the fact that all three of these individuals misled the 911 commission is as much of a smoking gun as one could find. This is the evidence that proves their efforts to cover up and mislead the commission. I believe they were all under oath.
