1. "subject to this chapter" is limited to "aliens."
Aiding an unlawful combatant, you should also note, is not made a crime, it merely etsablishes that the trial for any crime shall be conducted before a military tribunal.

2. Fortunately, sympathizing or giving moral support is not a crime.
The provision regarding giving "material support" to unlawful combatants is limited to money or supplies, nothing you write can get you under this section.

(b) Definition. - In this section, the term "material support or
resources" means currency or monetary instruments or financial
securities, financial services, lodging, training, expert advice or
assistance, safehouses, false documentation or identification,
communications equipment, facilities, weapons, lethal substances,
explosives, personnel, transportation, and other physical assets,
except medicine or religious materials.

5. What makes you think they won't
change these definitions with another "signing" statement?

6. Exactly
I am waiting to see this thing signed into law just to be able to read the signing statements that are attached to it.

7. Signing statements can't do that.
They can do some things, but even as interpreted under the unitary executive theory they cannot alter an element of a criminal offense definition.
