Woodward: Rice Brushed Off Tenet's Warning About bin Laden in July 2001
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/09/29/AR2006092900368_pf.html

"State of Denial" adds new information about Rice's role in the Bush administration's efforts to combat terrorism in the months before the Sept. 11 attacks. That subject became a source of controversy this week after former President Bill Clinton accused "President Bush's neocons" and other Republicans of ignoring Osama bin Laden until the attacks, and Rice responded angrily to the charge.

Woodward writes that on July 10, 2001, then-CIA director George Tenet became so concerned about the communication intelligence agencies were receiving indicating that a terrorist attack was imminent that he went to the White House with counterterrorism chief J. Cofer Black -- without an appointment -- to meet with Rice, then the national security adviser. He and Black hoped the meeting would alert Rice to the urgency they felt.

But Tenet and Black felt that Rice gave them "the brush-off," according to Woodward, telling them that a plan for coherent action against bin Laden was already in the works. Woodward writes that both Tenet and Black felt the meeting was the starkest warning the White House was given about bin Laden.

19. Bingo. The timing of the books is a great Plan of Attack..so to speak.
He established a respected objectivity (which he does have), before releasing the big one.

4. Guess who is NOT going to be allowed to visit the WH in the future?
Dear Leader is a very angry and petty personality. Anyone who profoundly contradicts him, even once, will find themselves smartly kicked out of the Club / Clutch / whatever immature gathering of people who are permitted to associate with King George. :P

8. Gross incompetence/dereliction of duty is a.o.k. when practiced by
Repugs, but think how those RW talking heads, who are still apologists for every administration action, would be incessantly fulminating at the mouth and Repugs in Congress would be demanding full investigations and impeachment. This is how it works when some love their own partisan politics and ideology far more than they do their country.

15. And what did they do about it? Split town. Went on "vacation."
Suddenly George was spending the month of August in Crawford. The press had no notice, it was not on the schedule, it was the longest vacation in pres history IIRC, they had to spin it and made up ridiculous signage that said The Western White House, Bush took a lot of flak for it, but they persisted, vacationing right up to Labor Day. As soon as they got back to DC he went to Camp David. Immediately after that they went to Florida. They stayed out of harm's way. Cheney spent August in Wyoming.

16. So What Made Tennet Jump The Shark?
What quid pro quo did he get for not only stopping his warnings but willing to fall on his sword for the BFEE? Is he working for the Carlisle group? Something musta happened between August and September, 2001 to the Director of Intelligence.

18. One theory is that Bush wanted to keep Tenet on hand
to serve as a scapegoat when needed. The facts seem to fit the theory. Fortunately for the Bushists, Tenet didn't mind. He just wanted to keep his job.

24. The Superhighway to 9/11
Forget about ABC's "Road". We're talking 4 lanes (and 4 planes) going full speed ahead, with no delays or turnarounds in sight, thanks to Bushco's dysfunctional agency heads not bothering to communicate with one another. And in the absence of effective leadership in the face of credible threats, the rest was indeed history.

There were absolutely no warnings. (END SARCASM) Makes you think we should rename the Department of State to the Department of Lies in honor of Condoleezza Rice.

when then-Attorney General John Ashcroft decided to stop flying on commercial aircraft. Maybe he got the warning that Condi ignored.

27. So, now they compare our troops to "salted peanuts"...........
"At one point, to emphasize his position, he gave Michael Gerson, then a White House speech writer, a copy of a memo he wrote to Nixon in September, 1969. "Withdrawal of U.S. troops will become like salted peanuts to the American public; the more U.S. troops come home, the more will be demanded," Kissinger wrote".

:wtf: These are human beings, Kissassinger! Salted fucking peanuts? :wtf:

These are human lives we're talking about here, not a fucking barroom snack! :grr: Yeah, we wouldn't want "Little Boots" Bush to lose face now, would we? A phony fucking war perpetrated by a phony fucking president killing thousands of our young men and women, untold thousands of innocent Iraqis and all they're worried about is Bush's fucking image? :grr: God forbid we should want to stop this senseless waste of human life! :banghead:

I can't fucking believe it! :argh:
