BREAKING NEWS: Foley Resigns, GOP congressman caught in creepy email exchange with underage page
by John in DC - 9/29/2006 03:27:00 PM

Holy crap. This was a safe Republican seat. We just got one step closer to taking back the House.

Intelligence and foreign policy issues continue to dominate the debate
by AJ in DC - 9/29/2006 02:44:00 PM

Yesterday I posted on Democratic leadership on security and defense issues on the Hill, but good leadership isnt limited to elected officials. Earlier this week, a group of leading Democratic foreign policy officials announced the launch of a new organization, the National Security Network, which is the first Democratic group Im aware of bringing together policy, messaging, and local outreach on issues of national security. There have always been highly capable Democrats in the policy realm -- theyre all at various think tanks and consulting firms, biding their time until they can get back into the NSC and State Department. There are also capable Democratic candidates, campaign staff, and activists. There is, however, an unfortunate disconnect between policy and politics on security and foreign policy issues, a disconnect that the NSN aims to resolve.

Former UN Ambassador and Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, former State and Defense Department official Les Gelb, and Congresswoman Jane Harman (ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee) all made brief remarks, speaking to the importance of bringing together policy and politics for effective campaigns and effective governance. Each was highly critical of the Bush administration and hopeful for a Democratic majority and, soon, president, and its clear that the foreign policy establishment is highly invested in this election.

8. Isn't that the truth
So many times I have heard that. Predators get themselves into positions where they work directly with the children. Unreal.

9. You're kidding, perfect committee for a pervert

Chris Matthews just said it most likely put the Dems one step closer to gettin' House control.

But that committee thing is ----- must be kinda like some youth directors and priests, plenty to choose from. Disgusting

12. Hopefully, Democrats.

No doubt Rove has a dossier on Mark Foley and that helps to keep him in the family fold....but this has to be a Democrat. No gain for Repubs to take him down now. But we need to expose these creepy guys who seem way too interested in young boys.

Another 'Republican Family Values' Congressman.

20. Oh yeah, Jebbie boy... there may be other legalities here
If Foley truly resigns, it doesn't matter if he won or not.

Point blank, at 55% Repug, this seat is gone. His name cannot be replaced on the ballot and his name will be pariah.

21. if he had a spouse, she (he?) could replace foley,
a la carnahan and bono. (i still get a chuckle remembering that ashcroft got beaten by a dead man!) i am afraid of who the rnc might put in his place.

come to think of it, maybe the repugs kept this secret until now so jeb could get appointed to the house! yes, we still need to beat foley in the election. at least foley was a known known and not an unknown known - *copyright donald rumsfeld. (sorry, couldn't resist).
