2. Foley shouldn't be allowed to simply resign, he must be investigated
Should the american people assume that pedophiles do not exist in government?!!

4. Could this be another pickup for us?
Man, I wish I was at home helping get my local Dems into office. This whole spectating from Canada is killing me, particularly today. Good-bye, Foley.

5. Holy crap... is this true?
If the GOP can't replace him, that would be a huge, unexpected pick-up for the Democrats. Foley was leading Tim Mahoney by 13 in the most recent poll.

I'm GLAD sto see another Pub bite the dust, but wasn't it a problem in TX forDeLay to get off the TX ballot? How does this work????

15. I don't recall the laws in Florida
But in Texas, a candidate has to die, be convicted, or ineligible, or something like that. It's why DeLay tried switching his residency to Northern Virginia when he should have bowed out of the primary.

Holy, holy shit.

This is going to suck the oxygen right out of the terra, terra, terra narrative the GOP was so carefully building.

23. You better believe it
RNC pulled him out of this race, plain and simple. He is well known for this behavior and it was only a matter of time before it all came crashing down and more explicit information came out. They didn't want this on the front pages closer to the election so they can still use the "Gays are going to kill this country and they are Democrats" mantra to sway the fundies.

Karma is a cruel mistress sometimes isn't it, Foley?

WASHINGTON - Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla., is considering resigning from the House in the wake of questions about e-mails he wrote a former Capitol male page, congressional officials said Friday.

These officials said a decision appeared imminent.

Foley's campaign has acknowledged that the Republican congressman e-mailed the former page five times, but said there was nothing inappropriate about the exchange...

Apparently he is an infiltration into the Republican Party. No true Republican, would act that way. We have a lot of them who have infiltrated our party.

21. Does that mean the Florida 16th CD goes to Mahoney(D)?
Edited on Fri Sep-29-06 02:27 PM by TahitiNut
Rated a "safe Republican" District, it went for Bush in 2000 and Bush in 2004. While Mahoney has raised $1.1M to Foley's $1.5M during the 2006 election cycle, Mahoney has far less cash-on-hand ($344K vs. $2.8M) than Foley.

Is there any polling on this race?

22. They can replace him on the ballot
I assume the Repub leadership pressed him to quit now to give them time to gear up a replacement candidate. The law was changed in 2005 in Florida to alloow candidates to be replaced regardless of the reason for their withdrawal.

27. I'd like to think so, but
The 16th is a fairly Conservative district. Very agricultural and rural for the most part, though it does include the area just west of West Palm Beach.

Time is short though, and Mahoney has name recognition. I can't think of any unemployed known Repub politicos living in that district, it will be interesting to see who they come up with.

25. Blimey! So, Foley Folds.
Pulling out because of those creepy emails, eh? I'm guessing that there's a bit more to it than that, because if the emails we saw were all there was, he could have survived this fuss without too much trouble.

So - my guess is this is damage limitation as far as he's concerned.
