Molly Ivins points out the nitty gritty of what actually made it into the bill, not what McCain, Warner and Graham proposed. How much press did these changes get from the MSM? Try zero.
The whole article is worth saving and looking at later as people begin to realize what has been approved in their name, and what the rest of the world knows today that most of the American people still ignore.

"The version of the detainee bill now in the Senate not only undoes much of the McCain-Warner-Graham work, but it is actually much worse than the administration's first proposal. In one change, the original compromise language said a suspect had the right to "examine and respond to" all evidence used against him. The three senators said the clause was necessary to avoid secret trials. The bill has now dropped the word "examine" and left only "respond to."

In another change, a clause said that evidence obtained outside the United States could be admitted in court even if it had been gathered without a search warrant. But the bill now drops the words "outside the United States," which means prosecutors can ignore American legal standards on warrants.

The bill also expands the definition of an unlawful enemy combatant to cover anyone who has "has purposefully and materially supported hostilities against the United States." Quick, define "purposefully and materially." One person has already been charged with aiding terrorists because he sold a satellite TV package that includes the Hezbollah network.

The bill simply removes a suspect's right to challenge his detention in court. This is a rule of law that goes back to the Magna Carta in 1215. That pretty much leaves the barn door open."

So they proposed worthwhile changes, none actually made it into the final bill after the "technical changes" were made, and yet they are out front and center shilling for Bush saying how they supported this bill.

McCain has ZERO credibility, and he turned his back on every soldier that will be tortured in the future as other countries now see the door opened to their individual interpretation of the Common Article 3 of the Geneva Convention that had been unsuccessfully challenged since 1949.

Shame on you McCain. You sold your soul to line up Bush, Falwell and the rest of behind your presidential bid.

Just remember, these are the same folks that floated lies about you in past presidential campaigns. Would not surprise me to see them use you, and then do the same again in your upcoming presidential campaign.

4. If Molly Ivins Discovered The Real Bill Specifics, Why Not Dems???

Why are Dems not front and center reading the offending sections, calling out McCain,Warner and Graham to explain how the bill was changed, and if they agree with these changes?

It is time to put these people on the spot. Now. Today. Before the Midterm Elections.

There should be a hubbub on Capitol Hill, with all Dems present, protesting this unholy piece of legislation and telling the truth.
