While we are debating fine points, repukes are accumulating control
Real, tangible control over the lives of millions, whether it's legal or financial.

The Republicans goal is to dominate us, and eventually eradicate us, not cooperate with us. Not to coexist peacefully along side us, for the good of everyone. Not to become a "great" nation. That's not how they think. Their goal is to serve themselves and the people they know.

We need to step back and take a good look at what's happening to us. We can be morally outraged again and again, but what good does being "right" get us, when everyone who functionally decides what is "right" is "wrong"?

You can be right as rain, and point to your high school civics textbook as they haul you off to Gitmo. You can thump the Constitution all you want to, but if the Sheriff wants to throw you in jail for peacefully protesting, and the Judge agrees, and the higher courts agree with them (or are powerless to do anything about it), than what does it freakin' matter? They have the kind of control that matters in practice, not in principle.

This is not a war that's being fought in our civics books or on the blogosphere alone. It needs to be fought with money, media, lawyers, elections comissioners, judges, generals, and anyone who can actually DO something to stop these people. I'm tired of being right, and having it not matter for shit.

Over 60% strongly disapprove of the direction our president is taking this country. What does it matter? What percentage of people with real, functional power disapprove of the pres? Where are all the Democratic elite, and what are they doing with their money?

1. I was slammed here yesterday with something like...

'you can't spell, you should try spell-check you dumbshit (I added this last part, but it was implied) and it got me thinking that we really do this to each other far too often while the conservatives and Republicans tend to stay in lock step with one another. This is a problem we have had for a long time ( that old circular firing squad joke). We must remember who the real opposition is and stop this silly infighting over 'fine points.' If we cannot, then maybe we do deserve the government we get.

BTW - I can spell - I have two graduate degrees (sorry, I had to say that, but I'm glad I waited until today because yesterday I was PO'd)

2. There are a bunch of snarky people running around here.
Edited on Fri Sep-29-06 12:43 PM by acmejack
But conversely, there are a lot more really fine folks here that are well worth spending your time with. I have laughed, cried, and learned so much with these guys that it is ,y family. Even the guys on the other end of the Democratic spectrum I argue with and snark whenever I get the opportunity (or can fabricate an excuse).

So don't sweat the small shit, enjoy posting and contributing-with two grad degrees, I know you have a lot to add to the discussion-so welcome!

3. I should not even be here....
anymore...because my heart has told my head over and over, that it's over. Watching the voting going on in the Senate affirmed for me the disregard elected officials have for the citizenry and the Constitution. All the critical votes of the last how ever many years now...and all the emails, letters, etc., and even when there is resistance it is followed by swift capitulation. The arguments are not even real anymore. Whatever the scrpt writers choose to make hay out of, is the topic of discussion.. with no mention of the carnage taking place in the shadows. The jig is up...and I ain't playing no more.

5. What are you going to do?
I mean seriously? To hell with these republiclowns! Our only recourse is to get everyone we possibly can registered and out to the polls. Get them pull a straight party we'll throw out the Rs and we can clean up the Country from there. I see job one as getting these corrupt guys out. We can't quit.

4. I feel like we would rather be morally right, than functionally powerful
And there's no reason you can't do both, but at some point we've got to stop expecting freepers to respond to this line of reasoning. They don't care about right or wrong. They don't care if something flies in the face of the constitution. That alone isn't going to win any arguments, or cause many voters to cross the aisle.

They care about controlling elections commissioners, judges, newspaper owners, journalists, governors, etc. This whole debate

And I love that we are the party of critical thinkers. This is who we are, and we need to use it to our advantage. We also need to know, however, when and where to direct our most powerful criticism.

I'm not saying we have to fight dirty, just acknoweldge that the real world is the real battlefield. The battlefield for real, tangible, control. Not just to have the highest score on your civics test, but to use that knowledge to DO SOMETHING.
