America Is Like The TV Show, "Saturday Night Live"

Just like SNL, America is a beautiful concept, but it is only a concept. It's the people that make it work. It's the cast that make it funny. If the cast stinks, then the show stinks. If the American people are lousy, then America is lousy.

I'd say its the folks in charge who make it great. When the leads on SNL suck the whole show sucks. Some of the worst years at SNL had some of the best writers. Terry Southern, a brilliant writer, worked on SNL toward the end of his life and it was during the worst years of SNL. A Whitney Brown, likewise, brilliant writer, lousy years.

America is the same, I'd say. We really, really suck when our leadership sucks. Of course, unlike SNL we are purported to choose our leadership so we, in theory, deserve what we get. Selections aside, the last two federal elections shouldn't have been close enough to allow for selections or machine hijinks.

2. Also, like SNL, America was really good off the top of the show, i.e., for

first half of its existence, right up to Weekend Update a few decades ago, but now that we're into the last "half hour", all we get are a lot of crappy, leftover routines that aren't very funny and aren't ready for prime-time.

I can't say I much care for your current guest-host, either.
