Democrats! How's this for an October Surprise? ...INSPIRE US.
Edited on Fri Sep-29-06 10:48 AM by Armstead
I mean it. Instead of this constant defensive game Democrats seem to be playing, how about being inspiring for a change. Not just individually, but together as a unified force for positive change.

"We'll protect America AND Make your lives better."

Present an alternative Liberal vision for America. Present a positive agenda that gets to people where they live. Restore Good Government. Restore Real Economic Opportunity and make Corporate America accountable again. Make Universal Access to Affordable Healthcare a Top Priority. Support Workers Rights and the Middle Class. Support initiatives to help the UnderClass to Move UP to the Middle Class.

Stop letting Rove and Bush and Corporate America (and Corporate Media) drive the agenda.

1. I agree, we need to tell voters what we will do when we regain power...
...voters have been lulled into a hypnotic trance that repeats over and over, be afraid, only rely on Repubs to protect you, nothing else we do to raid the public treasury and put our troops at risk really matters.

Dems need to paint a picture of how things could be, and go right at Repubs one issue mantra.

3. That's no excuse

They can put the pressure on the media to get the message out if they really want to.

And something like "We'll protect America better ANF make your lives better" is very soundbyte.

7. Sorry, I didn't mean to seem that way.

I'm just saying that it is possible for Democrats to push back in the media much harder than they have.

6. Nope, they just can't do it...
that's just too hard. It's much easier trying to "keep their powder dry" and remain as bland and uncontroversial as possible so we can take back the House and Senate. :eyes:

8. They could have turned lemons into lemonaid yesterday
I wish they had done a unified Abstention from voting on the torture bill, as a mass protest.

Instead they made some nioce speeches that had no effect.

I think if they had united and called Bullshit on Rove's obvious political ploy, they would have done a lot to move towards following Clinton's lead last week to becoming a gutsy opposition party.

9. They could have done a lot of things...
but they didn't have the politial imagination and will to do what needed doing.

I agree completely they could have walked out and refused to vote on the bill -- the entire Democratic contingency standing before reporters refusing to help kill the Constitution would have been a sight to see and gone along way to distinguishing us from the GOP and showing what true character/patriotism looks like.

10. "We'll protect America AND Make your lives better."
Just as we did for over forty years before Republicans took control. After Republicans took control America trembles in fear....

11. That's an important point -- It's not some utopian ideal
The idea of a more balanced America has been achieved in the past -- in the memory of many peopel alive today (including myself).

The idea of reasserting basic liberal principals is not some unrealistic or dramatic change. It's more like a return to the best of America.
