"..When a long train of abuse and usurpations, pursuing invariably
the same Object evinces a design to reduce Them under absolute Despotism, it is their right,it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."

Recognize that? I believe I may have been among the last generation of American school children required to commit its source to memory. Memorizing is so passe, and now so is the Right to Habeas Corpus, and the commitment to treat All as equals with respect to Law, Life, and Liberty.

I would never have believed I would see The Charters of Freedom so discarded and defiled. What misguided lesson of their History education led our representatives to think that opposing the tools of tyranny is a losing political position? Was it the fault of Concept-Based Learning? Modern Math? Or was it complacency, lack of discipline, or Alzheimer's Dementia that led this living generation to such a surrender and willing dismissal of the Rights of Man?

Today I'll mourn for the Passing of the Light, and pray that ancestors and posterity alike will forgive us. The nation has lost what was its raison d'tre. Tomorrow begins what must be a long struggle to find the new Guards.
