US Congress Irresponsible on Antiterrorism Bill
Washington, Sep 28 (Prensa Latina) US Congress was termed as irresponsible by a New York Times editorial for railroading a bill that serves the mindless politics of the Bush administration.
The newspaper refers in a Thursday editorial to "ghastly ideas about antiterrorism that will make American troops less safe and do lasting damage" to the 217-year-old nation, while doing nothing to protect the country from terrorists.

The terrible deal agreed on by the White House and three Republican senators gives Bush most of what he wanted, including a blanket waiver for crimes Americans may have committed in the service of his antiterrorism policies.
Among the biggest flaws of the bill according to The New York Times are its unilateral reinterpretation of the Geneva conventions and the bill´s definition of "illegal enemy combatants" that could subject citizens in or out of the United States to summary arrest and indefinite detention with no hope of appeal. Also, the president could give the power to apply this label to anyone he wanted.

It's good that they're getting the word around South America.
