Pollster: 2000 election was 'stolen' from Gore
Edited on Fri Sep-29-06 05:49 AM by Bluebear
Concord – A former national pollster argues in his new book that Al Gore really won the 2000 Presidential election, but premature calls by the media for George Bush took Gore's victory away.

David Moore's book, "How to Steal an Election: The Inside Story of How George Bush's Brother and FOX Network Miscalled the 2000 Election and Changed the Course of History," argues Al Gore rightfully won the Presidency.

Moore, a former University of New Hampshire professor, said he knows his premise is a "hard sell" and insists the book is not partisan....

His book focuses on the people who analyzed the votes for network television in 2000. He argues that the networks too quickly put Florida in Bush's win column -- effectively giving him the electoral votes needed for victory and influencing the ultimate outcome when the fight over who won Florida went to court.

Moore said even though the networks rescinded the call within hours, Gore looked like a sore loser for seeking a recount in Florida.

1. Why is it a hard sell?
Everyone *knows* Bush stole the election!

2. Farenheit 911 was explicit about this in the first 15 minutes of the film.
Of course most republicans have never seen the movie labeling it as a work of fiction.

3. It was merely coincidental that Bush's cousin called it first on FOX
:eyes:

John Ellis, Bush's first cousin, at Fox News declared the Florida for Bush after 2 a.m., causing the other
networks to do likewise, creating the lasting (and false) impression that Bush won the election.

That's from something I wrote in early 2001 comparing coup tactics the CIA used in Guatemala and Chile with what happened in Florida:

Media Manipulation/Reality Distortion

Guatemala: CIA "deftly created a fictional war over the airwaves, one in
which the government troops faltered and refused to fight and in which the
liberation troops were relentlessly moving toward Guatemala City."
Halberstam

Chile: "Press placements were attractive because each
placement might produce a multiplier effect, being picked up and replayed
by media outlets other than the one in which it originally came out."
Church Report

Not that it matters, but here's a link for the entire piece that someone posted on DU way back when:
