Iraq a "democracy"... ROTFLMAO!!!
And coming soon to the USSA!

BAGHDAD — Under a broad new set of laws criminalizing speech that ridicules the government or its officials, some resurrected verbatim from Saddam Hussein’s penal code, roughly a dozen Iraqi journalists have been charged with offending public officials in the past year.

Currently, three journalists for a small newspaper in southeastern Iraq are being tried here for articles last year that accused a provincial governor, local judges and police officials of corruption. The journalists are accused of violating Paragraph 226 of the penal code, which makes anyone who “publicly insults” the government or public officials subject to up to seven years in prison.

That's bush's "democratic Iraq" in action! RAH! RAH! RAH!

If so many people -including more Americans than died in 911 - this would be too fucking ironically hilarious.

1. I wonder how soon before we see the same penal code here?
After the country allowed the officials to now make torture legal, nothing would surprise me anymore. They can't continue to allow folks like Olbermann to continue to speak out, can they? Just thinking..........

2. Can't have those "enemy combatants" brandishing their pens, can we?
I wonder if that's what has happened to Riverbend?

chrony capitalism. As long as they have that, we call that their "freedoms". Everything else is just window dressing.

5. Oh, I forgot that Afghanistan is also a democracy.
It's one where a man converted to Christianity from Islam and was given the Death Penalty. The Mayor of Kabul stepped in and the Court then deemed that man insane. Of course the man had to leave the country quickly before he was killed.
