All is lost... cede all to the neo-cons...
Go ahead... Don't vote, vote for a green, vote for a repuke. Enable them even more... El Pequeno Diablo thinks he has a mandate... go ahead and tell him he does...

I am not saying that I am not dissappointed... there are some dems the blow with the wind... If we had control of a house we could control the wind... we could set an agenda, we could supoena... and there would be a similar measure of repuke pols that go along for our ride, maybe more...

I do not like the way congress is set up, where a 51% majority rules EVERYTHING, but that is reality. WE NEED 51%!!

Dino's may not vote the way we would like every time, but they are voting totally on bills the pukes introduce, and a great number of those bills are designed to do NOTHING but provide talking points for reps... Rove is an asshole to the extreme, but he is not stupid.

1. On good men doing nothing.
Edmund Burke said "All that is necessary for evil to succeed is that good men do nothing."

For most of my life and certainly all of my adult life I have confronted various evils, intentionally or otherwise. Sometimes you go looking for that monster and sometimes it comes looking for you. Regardless, the eventual confrontation is a trial. Winning or losing in a battle against evil is a moot point to judge a man or woman.

It is whether one flees from the battle or enjoins it that is relevant in my opinion. That is a point to judge on.

There is also the matter of how thoroughly that evil is confronted. As Americans, we are taught that some evils are so highly-appointed in the infernal hierarchy that they require we lay our lives down to stop them. Again, it is of little importance whether we win or lose that battle, but what pains were taken to stop it.

To many here, is is high Truth that this battle today required more effort than was given by those we have appointed to defend us. It will be marked down, and it should be, that the battle might not have been winnable. That is ultimately irrelevant. What will also be noted, and of much greater importance, is that this battle should have been fought with the kind of vigor appropriate to the menace of that evil which was confronted.

  Which it was not.

This was not a legislative kerfuffle over the subsidizing the price of corn or choosing a design for the face of a coin. Nor was it merely, and I use that word correctly, merely how we confront the evils which threaten America.

This was something greater than that. Today's battle was a question about how we confront evil in ourselves, and how we define our national character.

And the choice has been made. The President will lower his gallows-pen and the scratches it makes on paper will become a pale reflection of the gallows-blade which hangs heavily over our Liberties' neck.

The good men and women who represent us in Congress have not done nothing. But they have certainly not done what was necessary when confronting an evil of this magnitude. I did not expect our representatives to lay down their life for us, today. But I sorely wish that I would have known that they would lay down so little when the stakes were so great.

Freedom is a prologue to that which we will live with from this day forward. But Freedom is not the father or mother of it.

PB

3. The problem is not the party but the leadership.
we need better Democrats leading the party.

More Deans, Kerrys and Big Dawgs, fewer Liebermans and Zel Millers.

5. They'd rather do the Rove plan - vote against the Dems and put even
more Reps in. This is exactly why BushCo had them vote on the terrorist bill right before the election.

I don't get why people here would want to reward these thugs by voting Republican and enabling the Republicans to take more seats. Do you honestly think that voting Republican is going to prove anything? Or even Green - like the Dems are going to notice that the Greens got .001% more of the vote?

Even if all the Dems would have voted against the bill - it still would have passed. Even if they would have filibustered - it would have passed eventually.

Now it may have been nice if there was some rule where we could have put an asterisk next to the bill and said "All Dems voted against this bill." The rest of the world knows that there are many people here that are against the Bush agenda.

I plan on calling my Senator's office and registering my displeasure - which I have been doing every day for the last few days. I also plan on protesting on Oct 5.

We need to protest this bill in large numbers and do whatever we can to get the word out to the rest of the world and to the Dems and Reps that there are a lot of people in this country who disagree with the bill.

7. What just happened?
Edited on Thu Sep-28-06 09:29 PM by Marie26
I just saw on C-Span that the House has also just passed a warrantless wiretap bill this evening! And they're still there, still ramming through bills late into the night. WHAT is going on? Is this some sort of fascist Christmas where George Bush gets everything he wanted this year? For the first time, I'm really afraid of what is happening in this country. It's like they're trying to set up a dictatorship before the Nov. election.

8. We all have to stop blaming our governments - it's the CITIZEN's
.
.
.

The voters have to get out and be aggressive -

WOMEN did it,

Heck, they fought tooth and nail to fight the "macho" men so that they could vote too -

AND THEY DID IT!

Whassa matta with all the MEN in the world?

Can't they get offa their beer-drinkin' tube-watching butts to get rid of bad/evil leaders?

You watch - our Harper will do a huge turnabout with his affection for the PNACers, or Harper will end up joining our list of Prime Ministers with one of the shortest terms in Office.

Peasants from ancient time have unseated cruel leaders.

It's time for the US to do the same.
