"Thank the pResident"

My son came home today and told me they are writing letter to the pResident. I always follow up on the activities of the day but when it comes to government I ask lots of questions to make sure he is getting proper information. At first the letter seemed quite innocent until I asked six or seven questions and he got to the part whee the teacher told the class they should thank him. Admittedly, she did not say for what, just that they should thank him.

My seven year old knows as much as we could comfortably explain to him at this age. He knows about things from election fraud to the illegal occupation of Iraq. He has been to many peace protests and he hears us talk about politics almost every night over dinner.

We asked if he wanted to thank the pResident and he said no. My husband said that if he wants to say thank you then he can say it for reading the letter or listening to suggestions. (they are sending it to the White House) I wish I could send in a letter thanking the pResident, it would have harsh words such as : Gee, thanks for sodomizing the young children over there so my son will not be sodomized over here. Thanks for creating a world in which my children and grandchildren will have to look over their shoulders. Thanks for taking care of our brave men and women in the military by making sure they are protected in every way possible. Thanks for bringing down the unemployment rate for terrorists. And I will thank you very much to get out of the fucking office you stole, you asshole.

Anyway, I just wrote my son's teacher an email giving her lots of links and telling her how our family feels in regards to that sack of shit. I was nice but firm. She has never shown these tendencies before, so I am hoping she is someone who is just in the dark as to the evil that is this administration. If this is the case, her eyes will now be opened wide. If she is a Republican then I hope she will tread with lighter feet when she thinks of saying things like this in the future.

I am sorry, I am still outraged she said the kids should thank the pResident. I had to get this off my chest.

I was trying to point out the geography for you fortunate to live in a blue state, not to get a lesson, my friend. I live in Texas so I know what it is like to live in a red state so I just thought I might call it to your attention. Thank you for patronizing me.

that we suffer under in our blue state. And I also happen to have family in NC, and they are all Democrats, and they have friends of the same ilk. It isn't a lockstep state, and it seems to me that you're doing a bit of stereotyping, and getting a bit shirty for no good reason. All I did was point out a few facts, and you take it like an attack--which it wasn't. See, "I" can't give "you" a lesson, but you want to be my geography teacher? Check your mirror.

4. Ok, I know I will be flamed, but it is not public,

This is a charter school. We dropped out of our public school last year when my son's best friend was told that if he tied his sneakers together then he had to walk around with them like that all day long. The teacher said this and when I talked to the principal, she did not come across as caring in the least.

I encountered enough things, like that, that we could not put my son in danger by sending him back to a school that did not seem to care. We could not afford private school and we did not win the lottery with any of the magnet schools.

Up until now, we have had two teachers who do not like Bush. We had one that boasted when we withdrew our son, for a day, so we could take a weekend trip to DC for a peace march. We have not had any trouble at all. I am not even sure this is trouble as much as it is someone who has their head in the sand over what is truly going on. I guess I will know for sure if/when she replies to my email.

6. Flame, schlame--you know what is best for your kids, and aren't

charter schools funded with public dough? Where they go to school is YOUR business. The problem, though, is that the teacher is screwing up.

Charter or not, that doesn't give the teacher the right to force kids to bow to the fucking Emperor. If she doesn't get it, I'd take it up the chain, and if she's a total jerk, maybe you can get the kid moved to another class....

I really appreciate the support. My stomach is still in knots after I found out about this several hours ago. I will not let her indoctrinate my child so no worries there. He already says that Bush is a cheater. I will wait and see how she responds and will handle it from there. My husband felt like we should not rock the boat but I explained that my email was very nice and even toned even though I would love to have written it with my emotions instead. I keep having to reassure him that she will not take it out on our child. I had to come here to get some sort of catharsis. Rest assured that if this incident happens again, it will be the last for my son. I will not keep my son in a class where he is taught government propaganda.

8. Stay calm, and see what happens. That's the best way to handle it

No sense fretting until you have the full story.

But if the teacher ducks you, I'd schedule an appointment and have a little chat. Also, save that email...just in case the shit gets deep.

Thankfully, I have a very good relationship with the vice-principal and a quasi good one with the principal. I have just not gotten to know the principal well enough to have a great one - yet!!! I also have at least two teachers who would back me up. I babysat for one of them last night. She confessed to me, last year, that she does not keep up on the news but that the more she learns the less she likes *. I tried to give her information here and there after that. I think I have a pretty solid foundation at this school and they know I make a very long commute just because I love my kids so much. I think I have a solid footing as far as support a the school.

You are right, though. If she does avoid me then I will schedule a meeting with her. Heck, I see her every Monday morning. I do about an hour of copying for her at the start of every week. She can't avoid me.

The teacher wrote me a very nice email and here is what it said:

Mrs. XXXXX,

I fully appreciate and understand your comments. I think it is wonderful that you discuss politics at home and that XXX is aware of everything that is currently happening with our government.

XXX does not have to thank the president for doing a good job or for anything of that nature. As you said, thanking him for listening is a great idea. I will also be sure to mention that to the students today as I had not thought of that.
