RIP USA
The United States of America died today.

The nation founded on the proposition that all men are created equal

The nation founded on the notion of small government and mild government

The nation that pledged that cruel and unusual punishment would would never be used

The nation founded on the principle that the common man deserved opportunity and justice

The nation whose courts presumed an accused man innocent until his accusers proved otherwise

The nation whose government guaranteed that it would make no unreasonable searches of one's private papers and effects

The nation whose first chief executive insisted on no fancy royal imperial trappings, but only that he be addressed by a simple Mr. President

The nation that granted common people the right to vote and that government governed only with the consent of the governed

The nation founded on the ideal of freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press and the freedom to ask the government to redress grievances

The nation of the expanding frontier

The nation of emancipated slaves

The nation of the New Deal

The nation of the government of laws not men

Alas, she is dead

Stabbed in the back

By Bush and Cheney the liars

By Bush and Cheney the torturers

By Bush and Cheney the rapturers

By Bush and Cheney the intolerant

By Bush and Cheney the eavesdroppers

By Bush and Cheney the election thieves

By Bush and Cheney the imperial warriors

By Bush and Cheney who manipulate intelligence

By Bush and Cheney with Iraq's blood on their hands

By Bush and Cheney who allow the accused no recourse

By Bush and Cheney of the new world order of the American industrial elite and the Wall Street Bankers

May she rise again

Like the Phoenix from her pyre

To light the world with the blessings of the democracy once promised.

We need to revive our democracy. We can do it this November. All eggs are in that basket.

We need to make everyone aware of how dire things have become and then drag them to the polls. We are in danger, terrible danger. The Fall of America is imminent and only a Democratic Congress can save us.

9. In response to a few posts

1. We can argue about the exact date. November 22, 2000 ("Bourgeois riot" in Miami), December 12, 2000, October 2001 (passage of the Patriot Act), March 18, 2003 (Invasion of Iraq) November, 2004 (failure to turn Bush out of office) are all good one and a few people may have some other candidates. For me, this is the point of no return.

2. It is going to take more than an election to bring America back now. The impeachment and removal of Bush and Cheney is now imperative and then they must be made to answer for their crimes.

I had been hoping through all this that the US justice system could prove its resiliency and bring Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Gonzales, Yoo, Bybee, Rice, Wolfowitz, Perle, Feith, Carbone, General Miller and so many war criminals too numerous to name to trial, convict them and put thing in a very secure federal penitentially for the rest of there lives. The vote today probably means it will be impossible to charge them for war crimes under US law. We will probably have to convene an international tribunal to accomplish that.

19. right now...
we weep for what has been lost, WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO ABOUT IT???
When the mourning is over...WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO???

I can not give up...I WONT GIVE UP.

They have stolen the last election, possibly the 2002 election, and the Supreme Court had appointed * in 2000. WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO? I can't depend on Dems taking control, with that track record.

How bad does it have to get? Gawd damn it...when is enough, enough?

29. The USA has "died" multiple times
It died on December 2, 2000
It died on September 11, 2001
It died on March 15, 2003
It died on November 3, 2004
etc.

There has never been a set point at which the US has gone from Republic to Galactic Empire. It has been a gradual process.

31. Yep,this is what happens when there's a stolen election anda judicial coup
and the people do nothing.
Dec 12, 2000 was the day that changed everything. It's all flowed from that.
