let's presume the Democrats take control of Congress big time
in November, my question is, can the new Democratic Congress make a new law over-riding this recent law agreed to today by the re pukes (and some traitorous Dem's)?

I realize king george might veto it but still I'd like to know..

any help?

1. Of course; if there are enough votes Congress can repeal it.
And I hope to hell they do.

3. Bush would veto changes to the Military Tribunals bill.
We'd need a Democratic president to get changes.

5. If they take over "big time"
I think they would. But even if they take over this year, they will have a narrow majority and not the working majority you need to overturn something like that. We're going to have to wait until 2008 to elect a President who can do away with torture. I suggest that the next Democratic President consider using executive orders to wipe out Bush's agenda if Congress won't do it.

6. They would craft a new law that repeals the "bill" passed today

It would need the approval of both houses... which won't happen.

Then it would be sent to the President... and I'm sure he would veto it.

There is no way the Dems would be able to muster enough votes to override.

& don't do anything different from the Puggies.
No investigations--can't be disruptive, ya know.
Gotta stay the course in Iraq.
Sorry, single-payer health care would be too expensive. Can't afford it just now with this awful national debt.
Etc.

8. don't count on revisiting certain laws big on a dem legislature.
taxes -- yes.

torture -- probably not.

immediate pullout from iraq -- ummm -- nope.

alternative energy ''Manhattan project'' -- good possibility.

re-working and better funding for no child left behind -- again a near certainty.

11. torture was my main concern that and habeas corpus...
now suppose our troops are captured, what then? will they be tortured, rendered, or even killed? I can't see
an IMMEDIATE pullout but surely the Dem's wont continue the war full scale as we witness today.

thanks for the input..

10. A couple of agenda items

  1. A Truman type Special Investigations Sub-committee --- to root out fraud, waste, and abuse in our campaign in Iraq.
  2. A McCarthy type Special Investigations Sub-committee to root out fundie theocrats, neo-cons, war criminals, torture advocates, and fascists in government.
  3. A House Un-American Activities Committee to further root out such un-American activities as fundie theocracy (banning stem cell research, limiting choice, anti-GLBT), fascism, war crimes, and massive collective ripping off of America's once great middle class.
  4. Re-invigorate (? - is that a word) collective bargaining with a new Norris-La guardia Act/Wagner Act.
  5. Re-invigorate the Morrell Land Grant College Act and the GI Bill and the Pell Grants, etc. so that no American is denied an education to the limits of their intellectual ability --- unlimited by financial means.
  6. Universal, Single Payer Health Care.
  7. Stem cell research.
  8. Teaching of evolution.
  9. Full civil rights for all.
